The Mongolian Esports Association (MESA) is a body for e-sports in Mongolia. MESA was established in 2003 with a total of 10 people. It is a member of the Global Esports Federations and the International Esports Federation. In May of 2019, major changes has been conducted at the administrative level and changed the operation into a more active with sustainable system that mainly aims to engage youths and young adults. As of 2021[update], MESA has active "divisions" in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2, and Clash Royale, Tekken, eFootball PES 2020, FIFA, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. MESA also hosts the Electronic Sports Festival, a yearly tournament event.

Early years[edit]
Mongolian esports history started from the 90's. During the early years of development, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Warcraft were commonly played by the youth, and later on became one of the many reasons why Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Dota 2 to spread vastly within the community.
2019 Reformation[edit]
2019 was the year of reformation for Mongolian Esports Association. MESA made major changes in the structure, vision and set a goal to promote esport activities in Mongolia. Erdenechuluun Ganbaatar was appointed as President of MESA. Maisaikhan, who has worked as association president since 2003, is still continuing to work in the association as a member of the Board of Directors. To increase the number of local athletes and investors, MESA started to organize tournaments more actively, which started in June of 2019. It organized 3 series of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament under the name of "MESA Pro Series" and organized its Grand Final in the Mongolian Central Stadium during "XMF - XУУР Music Festival".

MESA PRO SERIES GRAND FINAL[edit]
The very first tournament that was organized by the MESA, Mesa Pro Series, took place in the Mongolian Central Stadium in 2019. Its main goal was to draw the attention of the masses and deliver a message that video games are not only entertainment but also can be considered as a competitive sport.
ELECTRONIC SPORTS FESTIVAL[edit]
The Electronic Sports Festival is the biggest esports event in Mongolia. Each event was held for a week with 7 to 8 types of games. In 2020, the event contained 8 types of games, which were Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2, Clash Royale, Tekken 7, Rocket League, FIFA20, NBA2K20.

MESA PRO SERIES DOTA 2[edit]
Dota 2 is one of the most famous games in Mongolia. There was no outstanding success, until 2017. Mesa started hosting the round-robin tournament series in December of 2020. This tournament has already shown a positive impact among the Dota 2 community. In the tournament there are a total of 10 teams which play in a round robin.
CS:GO: MESA LEAGUE[edit]
Mongolian CS:GO teams have been consistently qualified in international tournaments. They have qualified for the International tournaments, such as IEM Katowice, IEM Sydney, and IEM Oakland. These performances give a great impact on the local community by making the match competitive, and exciting for the viewers.
MESA LEAGUE 2021[edit]
"MESA league" is the first official Esport league in Mongolia. To get qualified in the MPS Grand Finale, all teams must participate in the round-robin competition. And the teams with the most points( points they get from participating in the round-robin competition ) move onto the Grand Finale. Thus, it has been the most competitive and the biggest Esports league in Mongolia.
National championship[edit]
The national championship is organized with several divisions such as League of Legends, VALORANT, Mobile Legends, Tekken 7 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Clash Royale, Rocket League, FIFA20, NBA2K20. The best of the best teams gather in the national championship and compete with each other to get the qualification for INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS.

HEALTHY ESPORTS CAMPAIGN[edit]
In the Mongolian community, there is common disapproval of esports and gaming being the core cause of health deterioration among youth. To both amend the public view and promote more healthy ways to practice gaming as both sports and entertainment, mesa has created an online campaign "Healthy Esports". The campaign contains a series of contents on how to maintain physical and mental health while practicing esports.
