Dr. Monique Y. Wells, PhD is an African-American entrepreneur, writer, and veterinarian.:[1] She is best known for her work regarding less as an American expatriate, having lived in Paris since 1992 with her husband, Tom Reeves.[2]

Wells was born and raised in Houston, Texas.[3]

Education[edit]

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a Minor in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania.[4] In 1989, Wells earned an M.S. in Veterinary Pathobiology from The Ohio State University.[5] She went on to complete a V.M.D. in 1985 from University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine.[6] Dr. Wells holds a number of certifications, including: American College of Veterinary Pathologists Diplomate, 1989. Subspecialty of Toxicologic Pathology, American College of Veterinary Pathologists Charter member, 2004 American Board of Toxicology Diplomate, 1994. European College of Veterinary Pathologists Diplomate, 1998. Eurotox Register of Toxicologists Member, 1999.

Discover Paris![edit]

Wells co-founded Discover Paris! in 1999 with her husband, Tom Reeves.[7] Discover Paris! is a personalized guided tour and itinerary service, specializing in African-American Parisian history and Afro-centric interests, and Entrée to Black Paris. [8] Her first book, Paris Reflections: Walks Through African-American Paris (2002) outlines shortened versions of the tours she offers to clients. Some of her tours include “Black History in and around the Luxembourg Garden” and “Black Paris after World War II”, and “Montparnasse, the Artists’ World”. [9] Her award-winning blog, Discover Paris! focuses on many aspects of Parisian life, including restaurant reviews, interviews with African-American expats, and insights to her personalized guided tours. Non-Profit Work[edit]

Dr. Wells is the founder and CEO of The Wells International Foundation is a 501(c)(3), established in October 2015.[11] The foundation is an education-based non-profit with six Strategic Focus Areas (SFAs), designed to “empower individuals to envision better lives and provide the tools required to build them.” The SFAs are: The Arts, Literacy, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Education, Women’s Empowerment, Preclinical Safety Training in Developing Nations.[12]

Wells is a free-lance writer, having contributed articles to International Herald Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, France Today, This City Paris and more.[13] Wells has published two other books: Food for the Soul – A Texas Expatriate Nurtures Her Culinary Roots in Paris (Elton Wolf Publishing, 2000) and La Cuisine Noire Américaine (Editions Minerva, 1999). [14] She hosts the podcast “Ultra You”, featuring interviews with self-made millionaire women who discuss their definitions of success. [15] Wells is the president of “Les Amis de Beauford Delaney”, a French non-profit association that memorialized and educates the public about the artist Beauford Delaney.[16] Wells founded a consulting agency for pre-clinical safety assessments, Toxic Pathology Services.[17] Wells is also the founder of a work-life balance consulting agency, Making Productivity Easy.[18]
