Monir Amerkhous shows his happiness after setting a new national record in Rubik's Cube.

Monir Amerkhous is a French/Moroccan citizen mainly known for holding the Moroccan national record in Rubik's Cube.[1]

Early life

Amerkhous was born in 1984 and spent his childhood in Evry (a city of Essonne, France). His very first interests were nature, geography, and playing soccer with friends around the block. After his high school graduation, he pursued a BTS degree (French diploma for a high level computer technicians in two years) in Evry.

He was accepted in Miage in September 2005, a famous computer science department which belongs to Paris 12 Val de Marne University. He pursued a bachelor and then a master's degree (graduation in September 2008) in parallel with an apprenticeship for a world leader company which produces ophthalmic optical equipment, Essilor.

The discovery of Rubik's Cube

No one knows exactly when Amerkhous played this game for the first time, but it is clear that one of his roommates, one day in early 2008, gave him the passion for this game. That still unidentified comrade taught him the basics of 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. Monir competed in the Rubik's Cube French Open organised by the World Cube Association and which took place in Paris on the 15th and 16th of March 2008. For his first competition, he took the Moroccan national record in 3x3x3 with his best time of 2:01.05. Downplaying his historical performance he reacted "I got two kebabs for lunch, I was struck by food coma. I should have been faster". As a true competitor he pursued "I swear I will beat the 2 minutes barrier. For my country, my family and my friends".

Current life

Monir now lives and works in Manaus, Brazil with a famous rugby player and a Playstation 3. You can sometimes see him connecting with mother nature in the jungle. Last week a group of tourists mistook him for a Tapir. He is very happy.
