Montale Rangone

Montale (Muntél in Modenese dialect) is a hamlet of Castelnuovo Rangone, in the province of Modena.

It has 4 066 inhabitants and is located 4 km from Castelnuovo and 8 km south of Modena on the Abetone and Brennero "Nuova Estense" State Road 12. The hamlet before 1800 was a fraction of the Municipality of Formigine.

Of great cultural interest is the Parco archeologico e museo all'aperto della Terramara di Montale, opened in 2003.

In the cemetery of the hamlet is buried since 2007 together with his family, Luciano Pavarotti and his sister Gabriella Pavarotti.

Infrastructures and transport[edit]

Between 1893 and 1937 Montale hosted a Modena-Maranello tramway station. The project of transforming it as a railway and extending it as far as Pavullo nel Frignano area was never carried out, even though it was in an advanced state of completion.
