Montgomery Center was a mall in South Elgin, Illinois. It originally opened in 1956, and closed in 2017. The only remaining anchors are Kohl's and Von Maur
History[edit]
The mall opened in 1956 with Sears, Marshall Field's, Montgomery Ward, Saks Fifth Avenue, Younkers, and Wieboldt's. Younkers closed their store in 1967 for a Lord & Taylor that would fill the space in 1976. Saks closed and demolished their store in 1978 to make way for I. Magnin which would open in 1980. In 1983, Wieboldt's closed and got replaced by MainStreet in 1985. MainStreet quickly got rebranded to Kohl's in 1989. Lord & Taylor sold their store to Carson's in 1990. In 1991, I. Magnin closed and got filled by JCPenney in 1992. In 1997, Montgomery Ward shut their doors, which became Von Maur in 2000. In 2006, Marshall Field's got converted to Macy's. In 2011, JCPenney closed. In 2016, Sears closed their store, leaving no original anchors to the mall. In March 2017, the mall announced they will close permanently along with Macy's, with the exception of Carson's, Kohl's, and Von Maur, which will continue to operate. The mall along with Macy's closed October 2017. On 2018, Carson's closed due to Bon-Ton bankruptcy
