| Target | Duke Energy substations in Moore County |
Attack type | Sabotage |
| Perpetrators | Proud Boys (alleged) |
| Motive | Anti-LGBT rhetoric (alleged) |
On December 3rd, 2022, three substations located in Moore County, North Carolina operated by Duke Energy were attacked, leaving 38,000 residents of several municipalities in the county without power.[1] The attacks were allegedly committed by attackers attempting to shut down a drag show in Southern Pines, which had refused to shut down after receiving death threats from individuals associated with the far-right[2], amidst Anti-LGBT rhetoric in the United States spurred by the LGBT grooming conspiracy theory. Emiley Rainy, a former United States Army officer who had participated in the 2021 United States Capitol attack posted on Facebook saying "The power is out in Moore County and I know why." and posted a picture of the Sunrise Theater where the drag show in Southern Pines was to be held saying "God will not be mocked." [3] The attack is being investigated as a criminal act.
