Moose Tracks Ice Cream

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Overview

The ice cream, Moose Tracks, was developed in 1988 and named after a nearby miniature golf course of the same name, in the upper peninsula of Michigan.[1] The flavor is derived from vanilla ice cream and peanut butter cups mixed with a thick, dark chocolate fudge, known as Moose Track Fudge.[2] Founder of Denali Ingredients, Wally Blume, officially licensed the Original Moose Tracks flavor in 1996.[3] Already in his mid-50s, Blume stepped into an entrepreneurial position after 35 years in the dairy industry. This venture would lead to $50 million in annual revenues from ice cream and other dessert sales. [4]

Growth/Expansion

8 years after it was created, Moose Tracks was successfully growing, as 34 dairy processors around the US were manufacturing and selling the ice cream. Just 3 years later, in 1999, with the introduction of more ice cream flavors, 73 dairy processors sold Moose Tracks or Moose Track-inspired flavors. In 2001, Moose Tracks and other Denali Flavors became available nationwide through 84 dairy plants, displaying its nationwide success.[5]

Flavors

Following the creation of Moose Tracks, Denali Flavors developed more ice creams inspired by the animals native to Denali Alaskan Park in 1996. For example, the flavors Caramel Caribou, Salty Caramel Caribou, Bear Claw, Bear Foot Brownie, Kodiak Island Fudge, and Otter Paws. In 2000, spin-offs of the original Moose Tracks were produced such as Chocolate Moose Tracks, Extreme Moose Tracks and more. As sales continued to grow, other flavors such as Brownie Moose Tracks, Mint Moose Tracks, Chocolate Peanut Butter Moose Tracks and more were added.[6] Today, there are 10 different spin-offs of Moose Tracks, and 6 other classic flavors mentioned above. They also dabble in cheesecakes, ice cream cakes and Greek yogurt as they continue to expand their brand.[7]
