Brian Satchell (born May 1989), known professionally as Mopioso, is an American rapper based in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the CEO and premier artist of his record label, Guilleteam Records.
Early life
Satchell was born in 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona to his mother "Sandra" and his father Michael, both of African-American descent. Satchell is the youngest boy and third youngest of 7 siblings in a single-parent household. Satchell had a troubled childhood. As a child, Satchell witnessed his uncle burn to death after falling asleep with a cigar on the front porch. Satchell also had daily interactions with close relatives dealing with violent drug addictions. He experienced homelessness, and additionally had to live away from his siblings due to size restrictions of his family home. By the 5th Grade, $natch Money was active in gangs and gaining notoriety as a hustler in his neighborhood.
Career
Satchell's career began in 2007 at the age of 18, then known as $natch Money, performing at local shows. Satchell began to gain recognition through platforms such as SoundCloud, DatPiff, and ReverbNation. Satchell had pre-existing notoriety throughout Phoenix, AZ, but his popularity grew nationally after the release of his single "Lord's My Witness" in October 2018, addressing matters such as police brutality, racial equality, crime, and family violence. In the same month, Satchell, along with fellow artist/producer Yungg Budde, released "The Starting 5 mixtape" on Datpiff and Soundcloud. Since then, Satchell has been featured on songs with various artists. Satchell is currently working on his studio album release.
Artistry
Satchell listed B.G and Nas as his early influences in hip hop, with other influences including Silkk the Shocker, Jay-Z, and Juelz Santana. Satchell has also described E-40 and Kendrick Lamar as musical inspirations.
Satchell describes his music as Tulley music. It is a derivation of the California Bay Area rap style (associated with rappers such as E-40 and Mac Dre), cloud rap, and also Atlanta's Crunk style rap, most notably made famous by Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz. His rapping style is adaptive and technical. His songs often include audible changes in lyrical pronunciation and word play. Additionally, Satchell is also known for his raw lyricism and storytelling ability.
Satchell is the cousin of local rapper Ditta Don Juan and brother-in-law to Christian rapper and producer F.K.A (Formerly Known As).
Satchell is CEO and premier artist on his own record label Guilleteam Records. Satchell is commonly requested for collaborations with other artists and works with many artists in various recording studios.
Personal Life
With such a turbulent childhood, Satchell turned to music to creatively express his feelings on various personal issues that he dealt with.
Satchell (then $natch Money) later moved to East St Louis, Illinois with his older sister and his eldest brother, who serves in the Air Force. After spending a few months there, he decided to visit Phoenix, and it was during that visit that he found himself in trouble with the law. (See Legal Troubles)
Satchell attended Sun Valley High School in Mesa, AZ before dropping out, later obtaining his G.E.D while incarcerated[1].
In his spare time, Satchell enjoys working out, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. His physique has drawn questions about him becoming a male fitness model. Satchell has long dreads and is noted to have a majority of his body covered in tattoos.
Satchell has written over 200 songs while incarcerated, ranging on various topics, and even with a vast collection of written works, he is consistently found writing new material.
In 2020, Satchell started Phlight Academy LLC, a business focused on the entertainment space. In January 2021, Satchell was stabbed multiple times by unknown assailants in a robbery, requiring emergency medical treatment. He has quickly recovered and continues to work on his artistry and various businesses.
Legal Troubles
In 2007, Satchell was arrested for two alleged Armed Robberies and one burglary 3rd degree. In 2008, Satchell was convicted for two counts of Armed Robbery. Satchell served 13 months in the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail and Sheriff Joe Arpaio's tent city and released early 2010 on probation. Later that same year, on April 19, 2010, Satchell had a reaction to prescription medications that caused a paranoid intoxicated reaction, in which Satchell attempted to flee the city by car, becoming involved in an auto accident, then stealing another involved auto to continue to flee. After a short police chase, Satchell was again arrested, this time for two counts of DUI, Hit and Run with Injury, Robbery, Attempt to commit robbery, attempt to commit theft, and Theft of Means of Transportation. Satchell pled guilty and was convicted of Theft of Means Transportation, being sentenced to 10 years to run concurrent with both previous convictions for Armed Robbery.[2]. Satchell was an inmate at the ASP Kingman facility during the July 2015 prison riots that took place.[3] During his incarceration, Satchell focused on studying business ownership and psychology, analyzing his personal relationships and improving himself, mentally and physically, and went on to additionally perfecting his lyrical craft in music. It was during this time that Satchell decided to no longer use the alias $natch Money.
On September 11, 2018, Satchell was released on community supervision. Less than a month later, a verbal altercation led to Satchell being detained again, however he was released and not charged with any wrongdoings.
