Early life and education[edit]
Morgan Hermand-Waiche was born in France, where his family owned and operated clothing stores.[1]
Hermand-Waiche attended Ecole de Mines in Paris and studied math and computer science.[2] He later attended Harvard Business School and received a Master of Business Administration degree in 2010.[3]
Career[edit]
Prior to attending Harvard, Hermand-Waiche worked at McKinsey & Company as a Junior Associate. During this time he gained experience in Europe and Asia.[4]
In 2010, Hermand-Waiche was in his second year at Harvard when he went shopping for a gift for his girlfriend. He could not find lingerie that he liked that was also affordable.[5] He felt there was a need for an inclusive lingerie brand that fit all styles, sizes, and budgets.[6] He then studied the lingerie industry in more depth, and confirming his hypothesis, began speaking with investors.[7]
In January 2012, Hermand-Waiche officially launched Adore Me.[8] The company was initially funded by angel investors, including some of Hermand-Waiche’s Harvard professors.[9][10] In his first two years of business, Hermand-Waiche raised $11.5 million in funding, primarily from venture capital funds – the biggest three being Redhills Ventures, Upfront Ventures, and Mousse Partners.[11][12] [13]
Under Hermand-Waiche’s leadership, Adore Me’s revenue has grown from $1M in 2012 to over $100M in 2017.[14][15] Adore Me has ranked three times on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America, including the #2 fastest growing retail company in the U.S. in 2015, and also ranked three times on Crain’s Fast 50 list of fastest-growing companies in New York in 2016, 2017 and 2018.[16][17][18]
Awards[edit]
In 2015, Hermand-Waiche was included on Business Insider’s Silicon Alley 100[19] and on TechCrunch’s list of Expats Shaping New York Tech.[20]
In 2016 and 2017 Hermand-Waiche was named one of SmartCEO’s Future 50 Award winners, honored for Company Culture.[21][22] In 2017, he was also honored by Goldman Sachs as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs at the 2017 Builders + Innovators Summit. [23]
In 2018, he was honored Retail Innovator of the year by Retail TouchPoints.[24]
Philanthropy[edit]
Hermand-Waiche is actively involved as an ambassador with the Epic Foundation and one of the early signers of the Epic Founders Pledge.[25]
