Moritz Resl is an Austrian designer and new media artist.
Early life and education[edit]
Born in 1986, Resl holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Computer Science from TU Wien and a Master of Arts in Art & Science from University of Applied Arts Vienna.[1]
Work[edit]
Resl's work spans from visual identities[2] to interactive installations[3] and appeared in international exhibitions like 2050 - A Brief History of the Future[4] at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium with the Louvre Museum and art festivals including Vienna Biennale for Change[5] and Triennale di Milano.[6] Commercial projects include work for The Prodigy for whom Resl designed cover Artwork for the single Wild Frontier (song),[7][8] the Massachusetts Institute of Technology[9][10] and Stefan Sagmeister with whom he designed the piece Traffic to Nowhere.[11] In 2011, Resl released a self-initiated project on generative typography called Average Font where hundreds of individual characters where combined into one typeface. It was widely covered by the media.[12] Dezeen called it a "ghostly" typeface,[13] Gizmodo named it "Beautiful Typographical Art"[14] and Tina Roth-Eisenberg from design blog Swiss Miss and CreativeMornings founder called it "typographic poetry".[15]
Resl is an occasional speaker at international design conferences including EDCH Munich,[16] Forward Festival,[17] FYI Vienna,[18] AI Symposium MAK Vienna,[19] Graphic Days Torino,[20] Swiss Interactive Media Design Days[21] and European Forum Alpbach.[22]
