Mortal Online 2 is a first-person, open-world, PvP/PvE sandbox MMORPG. The sequel to Mortal Online, it was developed and published by Swedish independent video game company Star Vault. The game launched on January 25, 2022.[1][2]
Development
Star Vault announced a sequel to Mortal Online in late 2019.[3] The early access version of MO2 was developed for Unreal Engine 4 and became available on Steam on November 23, 2021. Many custom-built systems of the original game were adapted for the sequel. In January 2022, Star Vault was awarded an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games.[4] The transition to Unreal Engine 5 was completed with Upgrade 2.0 on November 28, 2023.[4] The grant included a release on Epic Games Store.[4] It required rebuilding and repairing the game world and porting game systems to UE5. The dynamic lighting improvements with Lumen and Temporal Super Resolution make the graphics more realistic.[4] This upgrade increased the MMO's minimum system requirements.[5] Update 2.0 also added task non-player characters, more camps, points of interest, a fighting pit in the city Meduli, division of terrain into Guarded areas and Wilderness, and several combat updates.[5]
Release
Early access began on Steam on November 23, 2021. The 1.0 version was released on January 25, 2022.
