Morton Sosland
Morton Sosland was an editor, publisher, and philanthropist. Born in Kansas City, Sosland graduated from Southwest High in 1942.[1] His enrollment at Harvard was interrupted by service in World War II as a member of the 13th Armored Cavalry.
After the war, Sosland completed his studies at Harvard and went on to marry Estelle Jane Glatt in 1946. The following year Sosland joined his uncle’s publishing company, Sosland Publishing, where he spent the next 72 years working in various roles.
Sosland was a pillar of the local Jewish and philanthropic communities and served on dozens of corporate boards. Sosland’s most prominent and iconic contribution to Kansas City was the commission of the shuttle-cock sculptures for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s lawn.
