Mossley Village Hall is a village hall in Mossley, Congleton.[1]
History
The land for Mossley Village hall was donated by the land's owner Clyde Chappell.[2]
Construction of Mossley Village Hall began in early April 1957, with the foundation stones laid in late April 1957.[2][3]
Mossley Village Hall was designed by local architect Philip Burrows.[4]
Mossley Village Hall was opened by G.A. Elllison on 16 September 1957, Ellision was the Bishop of Chester at the time.[4]
The first use of Mossley Village Hall was for the yearly youth conference of the Diocese of Chester.[5]
Between 1958 and 1970 Mossley Village Hall was used by Mossley CE Primary School to mitigate long-standing overcrowding issues at the school.[6]
In 1970 it was proposed to convert part of the car park of Mossley Village Hall into temporary classrooms for Mossley CE Primary School.[6]
When built space was left for Mossley Village Hall to be expanded, this space was taken up in 2013. The extension is named The Chapell Centre, the extension was funded by a large sum on money left to the village hall by Miss Elaine Chappell after her death.[4][7]
