Motoreasy is a British company which offers car maintenance comparison in the United Kingdom. They are one of the largest providers of motor-based website comparisons in the United Kingdom. It also has a research arm which is frequently quoted in the British media.[1]

Motoreasy also released the UK's first car warranty and maintenance tracker for consumer use which is known as the fitC plug-in.

Background[edit]

Motoreasy is a comparison website for car maintenance like car warranty, car servicing etc. For car servicing, they offer a comparison of garages close to the drivers location.[2]

The company provided an MOT alert service for last few years, before the British government announced in 2017 that they would also be launching a similar service.[3] It also conducted a research,[4] in which it found that one in every five motorists in the United Kingdom ignore problems until the repair is needed to pass their next MOT test.[5]

fitC plug-in[edit]

In 2017, it announced that they were launching the fitC plug-in. The plug-in connects to an app on the drivers smart phone in order to provide them with maintenance and driving information.[6] The plug-in device is a small black box that is placed inside the vehicle and connects to the cars computer via the cars OBD port.[7] After the connection is made then it can provide information on warnings that the computer has picked up on.[8]

The Daily Record newspaper reported that it was the device of its kind that was available to the UK public.[9] Apart from providing maintenance information, the device also provides tracking services and information about the drivers journey. Many expensive cars have this information already included in their system but information such as fuel efficiency, braking and speed can be vital for an older model of car.[8]
