Motty Reif (born August 25, 1964) is an entrepreneur, businessman and producer of Israeli television, fashion shows and events. He is a member of the Tel Aviv Municipal Council.[1] and president of Friends of Ruach Nashit (Women's Spirit), an organization dedicated to helping abused women become financially independent.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Haifa, his father was a tour guide and his mother a painter. Reif's interest in fashion began at the age of 16 when he started modeling for fashion shows. After serving in the Israeli Intelligence Corps of the IDF, he moved to Tel Aviv, and in the late 80s, Reif became a partner in Shalva Ben-Gal Fashion Show. Two years later, he and Pinchi Mor started their own production company producing fashion shows. He soon expanded into launches for perfume brands, fashion designers and lifestyle brands, producing up to 50 shows a month.
Between 1993 and 2003, he was the producer and director for the Miss Israel competition, which was televised nationwide.
In 1995, he produced Wearing Peace, a live fashion show that was televised nationwide with 90 pieces presented by international designers, including Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Donna Karan. It took place in the ancient Amphitheater of Caesarea, with Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in attendance. During this time, he became a partner at the Look modeling agency[2].
At the end of the 1990s, he began producing TV shows in Israel as a partner at Meimad TV Studios, including a centennial event around Israeli fashion as part of the 50th anniversary of Israeli independence.
Together with Eitan Abbott of Meimad Studios, he started Meimad-Motti Reif and later took on a third partner, Guy Hameiri. In 1999 they produced the Israeli Fashion Awards which was televised on Channel 2; מהפך with Oran Datz as the host (2001-2005); Survivor Israel; Beauty and the Geek; Fashion Awards (2000-2016) and Discovery of the Year (1993-1999).
In June 2003, he was appointed Cultural Attaché at the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles, before returning to Israel three years later.
In 2005, he produced the documentary film Life after Tomorrow, with Sarah Jessica Parker, about the exploitation of the girls who played in Annie. The film won the best documentary and best director prizes at various festivals.
In 2006, Reif produced the documentary Brave Miss World, directed by Cecilia Peck, about the rape of actress/model Linor Abargil days before she won the 1998 Miss Universe title[2]. The film was nominated for an Emmy in 2014.
In 2007, alongside Yehoram Geon and Yael Bar Zohar, Reif served as a judge for the reality show Israel’s Got Talent, which was produced by Keshet and licensed to Channel 2.
In 2009, he initiated and produced Beverly Hills Fashion Week in Los Angeles, and the following year, launched Tel Aviv Fashion Week[3]
In 2011, he founded Reif Entertainment, now one of the leading production companies in Israel in the field of fashion.
In 2012, he was chosen the #1 most influential person in the Israeli world of fashion by AT magazine.
In 2016, he participated in the six-part documentary Fabric Stories broadcast on the Yes channel, which dealt with the gap between high fashion and its behind-the-scenes reality.
In 2019, he hosted Without Filters on the Israeli Fashion Channel.
Reif is one of seven representatives of One Tel Aviv, based in the Tel Aviv/Jaffa City Hall, serving as Minister of Social Equality to promote the interests of youth, minorities and senior citizens. He is also director of rehabilitation for the municipality of Tel Aviv and serves as a director at Habima National Theater.
In addition to his work as president of Women's Spirit, he created the Pinchi Mor Mothers’ Foundation, which supports single mothers and pays for the education of their children.
