Mtendere Secondary School is an all-male, boarding school in Thiwi village, Dedza District, Malawi. It was opened by the Marist Brothers in 1949. "Mtendere" means "peace" in Nyanja, the local language.[1]
History[edit]
The school opened in 1949 as a "juniorate" (like a minor seminary) for those with a desire to become a Marist Brother or priest. In 1972 the Adrian Dominican Sisters from the United States helped with teaching at the school.[2] Until 1997 it accepted only male, Roman Catholic students. Since then it has accepted Christian males who are not Catholic. B It was described by The Nyasa Times as among the best secondary schools in Malawi.[3]
In 2013 the school had a 100% pass record on the national MSCE exam.[4]
Vice-President of Malawi Saulos Chilima, alumnus of the school, spoke at the 2017 graduation ceremonies.[5]
