Muaaz Shakeel (born June 24, 1997), is an American YouTube personality, social media influencer, and video producer. He is best known as Muaaz, having received over 10 million views on his YouTube channel since its creation in 2008. His channel is currently one of the fastest growing channels in the technological tutorial category of YouTube.[1] He garnered attention on the platform due to these tutorials, which are primarily focused on popular software used by other YouTube creators. On YouTube, Shakeel's primary goal is to help aspiring creators build their influence with online video and social media. His channel focuses on creating a variety of different tutorials that have to do with topics such as starting a niche YouTube channel, Building a PC, How to record videos, and more.[2]
Career
Muaaz joined YouTube on June 15, 2008.[3] He first started uploading comedic videos in June of 2008, while still in elementary school, using well-known influencers Smosh and Fred as inspiration.[4] After creating comedic content for a few months, he switched his genre to gaming as it was his biggest hobby at the time. He saw other creators similar to him in age growing a massive following by playing games like Call of Duty, and he thought he could do it as well.[4] He claims that both gaming and comedy never clicked for him as a content creator and, due to that, he took a break from YouTube until August of 2015.[4][5]
Prior to starting his first semester of college, Muaaz came to the realization that his window of opportunity to grow on the platform was closing. He came back and, instead of focusing on the numbers and statistics of his channel, he focused on the content he produced. This return to the platform resulted in one last change to the genre of his channel: technology.[5] He produced content with a demand that was yet to be met by creating updated technological tutorials tailored for aspiring content creators.[6] From there, he branched off and started producing growth hacking guides for beginner YouTubers while still consistently posting technological tutorials.[7]
