Early life and education
Ashraf Ali Baqvi was born on 26 February 1940 (17 Muharram 1359 AH) in Virinjipuram, North Arcot District, Tamil Nadu."Website on the life & works of Late Maulana Mufti Ashraf Ali Baqavi launched". Career
Baqvi joined Darul Uloom Sabeelur Rashad Arabic College in Bengaluru in 1962, where he served as ‘‘Shaykh al-Hadith’’ (senior hadith teacher) and later as Rector. He became one of the prominent hadith instructors of South India and was highly regarded for his in-depth teaching of the ‘‘Sahih al-Bukhari’’. According to reports, he taught the work continuously for over fifty-three years.
He was also a member of the working committee of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Vice-President of the All India Milli Council, and a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy (India).
He taught Sahih Al Bukhari for 53 years (only a few in India have achieved this)
Death
Mufti Ashraf Ali Baqvi passed away on 8 September 2017 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. His funeral was attended by numerous scholars and students from across India.
Legacy
A website dedicated to his life and works was launched by his students and admirers in 2020. He is remembered for his decades-long service in Islamic education and his contribution to the propagation of hadith studies in South India.
