Muhammad Ahmed Bello (born January 4, 1958) is a Nigerian Veteran Journalist Senior special adviser on media and publicity to Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.[1][2][3]

Background[edit]

Muhammad Ahmed Bello was born on 8 May 1968 in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State. He attended Central Primary School, Birnin Kudu, from 1975 to 1981. He proceeded to Government College, Birnin Kudu from 1981 to 1986. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Bayero University, Kano in 1994 and also successfully completed his master's degree programme in Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies from Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja.[4]

Career[edit]

He started his career in journalism at the Kano State Government Triumph Newspapers where he rose through the ranks to become an assistant Editor, Sunday Triumph. Thereafter, he joined the Tempo magazine (now rested) and PM News as North -West correspondent based in Kano. He was also a District Correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Funtua, Katsina State from 2001 to 2005.[5]

He was at various times the Bureau Chief of DAILY TRUST newspapers; and, Regional Editor of THISDAY newspapers between (2009-2010) and (2010-2012); in Port Harcourt; Rivers state. Thereafter, he was transferred to Abuja where he briefly covered opposition political parties as a Correspondent-at-Large, before being moved to the State House, Abuja as Bureau Chief, Abuja. In 2013 he became the newspaper's correspondent at the House of Representatives, Abuja.[6]

He was appointed as a Deputy Editor (Daily) of THE AUTHORITY newspaper in 2015. Few months later he became an editor of LEADERSHIP WEEKEND newspaper. One month after he was moved up to edit LEADERSHIP FRIDAY newspaper.[7] While working in Port Harcourt he also freelanced for Xinhua News Agency (2010-2011) and The Will online newspaper.[8]

Muhammad Ahmed Bello equally has eight years of experience in Boko Haram counter insurgency (COIN) consultancy. His career trajectory along this line started between 2011 and 2013 when he worked for the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Abuja as a COIN consultant. In 2014 he served in the same capacity in the Office of the Inspector General of Police; Abuja.[9] The following year he was the Secretary of a COIN Working Group at the Office of the Director-General of the Department of State Security (DSS), Abuja; COIN advisory consultant; Office of the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA); Abuja, (2017) COIN specialist to the CDI.[10]
