Muhammad Munir Idilbi (Arabic: محمد منير إدلبي; 1949 – 2025) was a Syrian writer, educator, and researcher. He authored and translated books in Arabic and English on religion, philosophy, and comparative theology, and became known for addressing controversial themes in Islamic thought through his series The Unknown Islam.[1]

Early life and education

Idilbi was born in Damascus, Syria, in 1949. He earned a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of Damascus in 1973.[2]

Career

Following graduation, Idilbi worked as a teacher of English language and writing at schools and institutes in Syria and abroad. Over more than three decades, he wrote and translated works exploring Islamic theology, reason, and modernity.[3]

Idilbi maintained an official website during his lifetime that hosts his writings and provides book information.[18] After his death in 2025, his family continued to manage the site and digital archive.[19] His family has stated that they are working on translating his books into additional languages—including English, French, German, and Spanish—and on publishing new editions of his novel Doctor Faust in the Court of Heaven.[20][21]
