Rear Admiral Md. Zohir Uddin[lower-alpha 1] is a two-star officer of Bangladesh Navy[1] currently serving as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Logistics) of Bangladesh Navy. Prior to taking the office of ACNS (Log), he has served as Director of Naval Stores.
Early life and education
Rear Admiral Md. Zohir Uddin, NBP, NUP, ndc, afwc, psc joined Bangladesh Navy in 1985 as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned in the Logistics Branch. During his long 35-year career, he has held many important command, staff, and instructional appointments in the Naval Headquarters as well as in area and unit-level organizations. His important assignments include Commanding Officer of BN Central Naval Stores Depot, Commanding Officer of BN School of Logistics and Management; Director of Naval Stores and Director of Pay and Accounts at Naval Headquarters; Deputy Director of Naval Budget; General Manager (Finance) Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd, Narayanganj, and Deputy General Manager (Finance) of Khulna Shipyard Ltd; Inspector of Academies and Director of Plans at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University Bangladesh, and Director Purchase (Navy) at DGDP.
As a young officer, he actively participated in long-endurance swimming, sailing, and tennis competitions of the Bangladesh Navy. He enjoys reading and traveling.
Military career
Zohir has attended a number of courses both at home and abroad. He completed the International Junior Officers’ Supply Course at HMS Raleigh, UK, and earned his logistics specialization from the Bangladesh Navy School of Logistics and Management. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He completed his second Staff Course at the Naval Staff College, USA. He has also completed the Armed Forces War Course (afwc) and the National Defence Course (ndc) from the National Defence College, Mirpur. Additionally, he attended the Senior International Defence Management Course at the Naval Postgraduate School, USA.
He obtained a Master’s in Defence Studies from the National University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of South Asia. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD at the Bangladesh University of Professionals.
The officer has served under the Blue Beret in the Headquarters of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) as an international peacekeeper. He is a recipient of the Bangladesh Navy Medal (NBP), Bangladesh Navy Shuddachar Award, and Bangladesh Navy Medal of Excellence (NUP).
Family
Uddin is married and has one daughter and one son.
