Muhammad bin Abu-Hasan (Arabic: مخزوم بن فلاح النبهاني‎; 1376–1435) was the first Sultan of Oman of the Nabhan dynasty, having ruled the country from 1406 until his death in 1435.[1] Crowned after the death of Muzaffar bin Suleiman, in the year 1025 AH, and the country was in a state of struggle, so Muhammed settled in the fortress of until his hand was cut off by mistake and he died due to surgery.[2]

He came from the Nabhan clan of the Atiq tribal subgroup of the Azd tribe. In 1151, he led a part of his clan in the Bakhla region. By this time, the Imamate of the Yamkhed family had finally declined, and its representatives actually became officials of the Kerman Sultanate.

In 1153, crisis phenomena began in the Sultanate, caused by the Oghuz rebellion in Khorasan. With the accession to the throne of Sultan Togrul Shah, the weakening of Kerman took place. In 1154, co-imams Hardallah bin Sama'ah and Musa bin Abu-Jafar (known as Jabr or Jabir) died or perished. In the struggle for Muhammad's power, the sheikhs of the tribes were elected as the new imam, which was a revival of an ancient tradition. Muhammad bin Khanbash was chosen as his co-imam. Probably at that time, a stable tradition of co-imams was established. Bakhla fortress became the capital.

From the very beginning, he started a struggle against the Kerman Sultanate, achieving the independence of Oman in 1162. In the same year, after the death of Muhammad bin Khanbash, Musa bin Abu al-Ma'ali became the new co-imam. Until 1170, he repelled the attempts of the Seljuk troops to restore their power over Oman. At the same time, he opposed Murshid bin al-Murshid, the ruler of Suhar. He died in 1176. His power was taken over by Musa bin Abu al-Ma'ali, after whose death in 1179 the state disintegrated, forming several emirates led by representatives of the Nabhan clan, who began to use the title of muluk (lord), while imams continued to be elected from among local clans.
