Mukund Chorghade

Mukund S. Chorghade is an American chemist[1] known for his work in sterically protected and electronically activated metalloporphyrin catalysts, known as the Chorghade–Dolphin catalysts or chemosynthetic livers.[2][3]

He is an elected Fellow of the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Medicine, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the American Institute of Chemists, the Indian Chemical Society.[4][5][6][not in citation given]

Early life and education

Chorghade received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Poona.[7] He earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Georgetown University, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Virginia and Harvard University.[4] He later held visiting scientist positions at the University of British Columbia, Collège de France, Université Louis Pasteur, Cambridge, and Caltech.[8] In 2021, he was conferred completed an earned D.Sc. from by the University of Mumbai, and he has also received an honorary D.Sc. from the Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research.[6]

Career

He has directed research groups at The Dow Chemical Company, Abbott Laboratories, CytoMed, and Genzyme.[5] He has also served as Chief Scientific Officer for Chicago Discovery Solutions[9], AGN Biofuels, Empiriko, and Apinovo.[4]

Chorghade founded THINQ Pharma[10][11] and Ayurvidya Healthcare Innovations, through which he has advised pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies on synthetic and medicinal chemistry, technology transfer, regulatory compliance, and process development.[12]

He has held adjunct or visiting roles at Harvard University, MIT, Caltech, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Northeastern University, Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, Boston College, Cambridge, Strathclyde, and the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai.[13][5]

Research

Chorghade developed sterically protected, electronically activated metalloporphyrin catalysts with David Dolphin, incorporating extensive halogenation to improve oxidative stability and catalytic efficiency.[14][15]These biomimetic systems increased catalytic turnover and enabled predictive drug metabolism and late-stage oxidation reactions.[5]
