Multiply Labs is an American company that develops robotic systems for automated pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a focus on cell therapy production. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in San Francisco, the company builds robotic systems intended to automate manufacturing steps that are traditionally performed manually.[1][2]

History

Multiply Labs was founded in 2016 by Fred Parietti and Alice Melocchi. The company initially developed robotic systems to produce personalized capsules for clinical trials before expanding into cell therapy manufacturing.[1] In April 2021, it raised a $20 million Series A round led by Casdin Capital, with participation from Lux Capital and Founders Fund's Pathfinder vehicle.[1]

Technology

The company's systems use collaborative robots to automate manufacturing steps traditionally carried out by hand, and are designed to operate with instruments already used in existing cell therapy workflows.[2] According to the company, automation can substantially reduce per-dose manufacturing costs and increase output relative to manual production.[3]

Collaborations

Multiply Labs has entered agreements with several cell therapy developers to evaluate robotic automation of their manufacturing. In 2024 it announced a collaboration with Legend Biotech, which received priority access to its systems.[3] In 2026 it announced a collaboration with AstraZeneca to evaluate manufacturing-ready robotic systems for commercial-scale cell therapy production.[4]

Operations

In May 2026, Multiply Labs established an Italian subsidiary, Multiply Labs Italia, in Turin, appointing Enrico Racca as its founding general manager.[5]
