Multitude of Voyces is a British organisation founded in 2019 by Louise Stewart et al. and based in Salisbury. It aims to support "those who are under-represented, marginalised and vulnerable … through church music."[1]
Publications
The organisation is best known for its work as a music publisher. They publish an anthology series of music by women composers which has been described as "indispensable as our field seeks to be inclusive and representative of all voices."[2]
- SATB Anthems (2019): 22 anthems by composers including Fanny Hensel, Imogen Holst, Cecilia McDowall, Undine Smith Moore, Ethel Smyth, and Judith Weir.[3]
- Upper Voices Anthems (2020): 24 anthems by composers including Judith Bingham, Lili Boulanger, Hildegard of Bingen, Roxanna Panufnik, Elizabeth Poston, Clara Schumann, and Grace Williams.[4]
- Advent to Candlemas (2020): 26 anthems by composers including Amy Beach, Avril Coleridge-Taylor, Maddalena Casulana, Elizabeth Maconchy, and Rhian Samuel.[5]
The first volume was launched on Sunday 17th November, 2019, with an Evensong and concert at Selwyn College, Cambridge.[6] Music from these anthologies has been recorded by groups including Siglo de Oro,[7] The Gesualdo Six,[8] and Aurora Nova,[9] and broadcast by ensembles including the BBC Singers.[10] In total, the three volumes include music by 63 women composers.[3][4][5]
