The Muncie River Monsters are a professional indoor football team. Based in Muncie, Indiana.
The River Monsters began play as a charter member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League for its inaugural 2011 season known as the Northern Kentucky River Monsters, spending one season in the UIFL before reaching an agreement with league management to leave. While in Northern Kentucky, the River Monsters were specifically based in Highland Heights, Kentucky, and played their home games played at The Bank of Kentucky Center. On June 6, 2011, it was announced that the UIFL and the River Monsters mutually agreed to part ways, leaving the team free to join another league. However, the UIFL maintained a lease agreement with the arena to prevent the River Monsters from using it in 2012, even going so far to create a dummy franchise (the Kentucky Monsters, who never played a single game) to occupy the lease. The team had been mentioned as a charter member of the proposed Stadius Football Association, but that league never got off the ground. On their web show, the Dayton Silverbacks announced the River Monsters would be joining the CIFL, moving to Muncie, and retaining the River Monsters name.
