Least successful counties[edit]
Every county who have participated have been represented in a Munster SFC Final. The four weaker counties in the championship have been Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, only occasionally qialifying for the final. Since 1936, these four counties have only won 2 titles between them (Clare in 1992 and Tipperary in 2020)
Waterford have historically been the weakest county in the championship. They have not won a Munster SFC match in a number of years and haven’t qualified for the final since 1960.
A lot of the Munster SFC counties are more prominent in the sport of hurling. Counties such as Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford are more competitive and higher up the tiers in hurling.
Levels[edit]
Munster counties can be divided into two levels or tiers, based off of results: Tier 1 counties are consistent participants in the Munster final. Tier 2 counties are usually knocked out in the early rounds of the championship and do not reach the final often.
Tier 1 counties (2): Cork, Kerry
Tier 2 counties (4): Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford
