Murder of Sayano Horimoto

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

In 2005 Sayano Horimoto (堀本 紗也乃, Horimoto Sayano, 1993 – December 10, 2005), a 12-year old Japanese girl, was murdered by her teacher, Yu Hagino (萩野 裕, Hagino Yū, born 1982), when she attended a juku (cram school) in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture.

The girl, then a sixth grader at Shinmei Primary School, at some time became uncomfortable with 23-year old Hagino, who besides being a school teacher was a student at Doshisha University. Sayano's parents complained about the way he treated their daughter after an individual concealing session in may. On December 10, 2005, Hagino sent the other students out of the class. After that he disconnected a security camera and stabbed Sayano Horimoto to death with a kitchen knife. He later explained that he committed the murder because he thought that the girl was disrespectful with him.

Yu Hagino had been already convicted of injuring a man before the murder. He went to a mental hospital in the autumn of 2003, but he deteriorated after that, and was taking Fluvoxamine.

Because his crime occurred when the murder of Airi Kinoshita made a panic in Japan, Hagino was regarded as a child killer by Japanese people. He received an 18-year prison sentence for the murder on March 6, 2007, although prosecutors appealed seeking a heavier penalty. However, on March 24, 2009 the Osaka High Court revoked the original sentence and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment.
