Murphy Pond which is located in Clifton Park, NY is a well known pond which has been an integral part of of the Clifton Knolls neighborhood for centuries. There is plenty of things to do around the pond including hiking trails, Barney Road park, Barney Road Public Pool and plenty of fishing spots!

Wildlife: Fish commonly caught in Murphy Pond include small mouth bass, large mouth bass, stripped bass (seasonally), barracuda, catfish and fresh-water lobsters and the occasional oyster (be on the look out for the beautiful pearls!).

Water Quality: Locals should avoid exposing bare skin to the water as a high level of Blue-green algae have been found. Should you accidentally expose yourself please call Poison control and rinse off the area for 24 hours.

Heroics: In 2014 there was a devastating accident where a man lost control of his vehicle, swerved on Barney Road and ended up in Murphy Pond. The man was saved from imitate death by a heroic bystander in a dramatic rescue for the ages. The man was a Siena College graduate who won the purple heart for his heroics. He was the first non-military recipient of the purple heart.

Name etiology: Murphy Pond was named in 1777 by the British General, John Burgoyne just before the Battles of Saratoga. He named the pond after his mistress Jane Murphy who is the great great great grandmother of actor Eddie Murphy.
