Musa Saidakhmatovich Khamanaev (Russian: Муса Саидахматович Хаманаев; born October 14, 1987) is a Russian mixed martial artist of Chechen descent. He is the former M-1 Global lightweight champion.[3]

Background[edit]

In 2008 Khamanaev won a world championship in Combat Sambo.[4] In 2009 Khamanaev won a Russian championship in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.[5]

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

M-1 Global[edit]

Khamanaev faced Daniel Weichel for the M-1 Global Lightweight Championship on June 21, 2012 at M-1 Global - Fedor vs. Rizzo.[6] He won the fight via submission in the first round to become the new M-1 Global Lightweight Champion.[7]

Khamanaev was expected to defend his M-1 Global Lightweight Championship against Mairbek Taisumov on November 15, 2012 at M-1 Challenge 35[8] but the bout was cancelled for unknown reasons.[9]

In his first title defense, Khamanaev faced Niko Puhakka on February 27, 2013 at M-1 Challenge 37. Khamanaev retained his title, winning via unanimous decision.[10]

In his second title defense, Khamanaev faced Vladimir Nikolaev on February 28, 2014 at M-1 Challenge 45. He won the fight via TKO in the second round.[11]

Titan FC[edit]

Khamanaev faced Jason Knight on September 19, 2015 at Titan FC 35.[12] He lost the fight via submission in the second round.[13]
