Musichead Gallery is a photography gallery specializing in music photography and fine art by famous musicians. It is owned and operated by Sam Milgrom. The gallery represents over 80 music photographers,[1] and sells original and limited-edition prints through its physical location on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and its website. The gallery has hosted many world premiere and Los Angeles premiere exhibitions by musicians, artists and photographers including Jerry Garcia, Grace Slick, Brandon Boyd, Pearl Thompson, Storm Thorgerson, Miles Davis, Robby Krieger, Sheila E., Carl Palmer, Chad Smith, Chuck D, Neil Zlozower, Baron Wolman, Markus Klinko, Allan Tannenbaum, and Chris Cuffaro.

History[edit]

Owner Sam Milgrom had curated art exhibitions and concerts in his hometown of Detroit. Relocating to Los Angeles, he opened a gallery, originally called Mr Musichead, on Melrose Avenue in spring 1998.[2] It was the first and remains the only Los Angeles gallery devoted solely to musical subjects.[3] Initially it displayed and sold music posters, memorabilia, collectibles, and vintage music photographs.

In 2004 the gallery relocated to Sunset Boulevard,[4] renamed Mr Musichead Gallery. Its first exhibition was John Van Hamersveld "Works on Paper."

In 2015 the gallery moved across the street to its present location at 7420 Sunset Boulevard.

In 2018 Milgrom, radio personality LeRoy Downs, and Jimmy Kimmel producer Fred Smith Jr. created a "Just Jazz" live music series at the gallery, run by Downs.[3] The series presented touring jazz performers every Wednesday for four years.

In March 2022 Milgrom shortened the gallery's name to Musichead.
