Musikprotokoll (own preferred way of spelling: musikprotokoll) is a festival platform for contemporary and experimental music.[1]. Founded by Emil Breisach in 1968, the festival is hosted annually by the Österreichischen Rundfunk (ORF) as part of Steirischen herbst. The performed works are broadcast on Radio Österreich 1. musikprotokoll is a kind of laboratory for new developments in music and covers a heterogeneous, contemporary range of genres: orchestral music, chamber music, improvisation, performance, sound installation. Many of the works are developed and produced especially for the festival.[2]

musikprotokoll in networks[edit | edit source]

2007 musikprotokoll together with Club Transmediale and other European organisers founded the festival network ECAS[3] (European Cities of Advanced Sound), (European Cities of Advanced Sound), which soon after expanded into the ICAS[4] (International Cities of Advanced Sound) erweiterte. musikprotokoll is a member of SHAPE[5][6] (Sound, Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe), a platform for innovative music and audiovisual art from Europe. Each year 16 European festivals and art organisations collectively nominate promising musicians and artists, whom they present at these festivals.
