Mussab Ali
Mussab Ali is a Pakistani-American politician who currently studies at Harvard University and serves as the President of the Jersey City Board of Education.[1] On November 7, 2017 Mussab Ali became the youngest muslim ever elected in America at 20 years old.[2][3] At 23, Ali became the youngest board president in Jersey City history.[4] Mussab Ali is the first Truman Scholar in Rutgers history.[5] In 2019, Ali was part of the third cohort of Schwarzman Scholars and lived in Beijing while flying back monthly for board duties.[6] In 2020, Ali enrolled at Harvard Law School while concurrently serving out his term on the board.[7]
Biography[edit]
Mussab Ali was born in Lahore, Pakistan and immigrated to the United States when he was 3 years old. He attended Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School where he was a Track & Field athlete.[8][9] Mussab began his political career in 2016 by running for the Board of Education at 19 with a platform focused on having a student voice on the board.[10] After losing, Ali ran in 2017 again for a special 1 year term on the board and won his election by only 68 votes.[11] In 2018, Ali was reelected to serve a 3 year term on the board of education with 22,667 votes.[12][13]
In 2019, Ali launched a nonprofit to help train the next generation of civic leaders.[14]
