Alhaji Mustapha Ado Muhammad (born July 27, 1958) is a Nigerian businessman and philanthropist. He is the non-executive director of Lotus Bank of Nigeira. He is the founder and chairman of Ammasco International Limited, the largest manufacturers of oil-based lubricants in Nigeria.[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Muhammad was born in Katsina on July 27, 1958. He attended Government Secondary School, Gwale, Kano, graduating in 1982. After that, he was admitted to the School of Management at Kano State Polytechnic. where he studied (Accounting) where he obtained a National Diploma and a National Diploma in 1985 and 1989 respectively.[2]
Career[edit]
He founded Alhaji Mohammad Mustapha Ado Supply Company (AMMASCO) group of companies in 1997, specializing in the manufacturing of lubricants, liquefied petroleum gas, and other allied products.[3] [4] His company has been reported to be one of the only five companies that manufacture greases locally alongside Oando and MRS Oil Nigeria Plc [5]
In May 2017, he was appointed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a member of the Industrial Policy Competitiveness Advisory Council, saddled with the task of addressing the bottlenecks hindering industrialization in Nigeria. He was appointed and inaugurated as part of the 21-man appointees from the Private Sector alongside Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu. [6] [7]
In December 2021, Lotus Bank in its first Annual General Meeting ratified the appointment of Muhammad as a non-executive director of the bank.[8]
Muhammad is the current President of the Lubricant Producers Association of Nigeria (LUPAN).[9] He succeeded Anthony Obiagboso Enukeme, a founding member & first chairman in 2020.[10]
Philanthropy[edit]
Muhammad has been known for his philanthropic works, most especially towards Internally Displaced People Camps in Maiduguri.[2] In March 2020, Alhaji Mohammed constructed a nine-classroom block at the Gobirawa Primary School in Kano State and he has also constructed a building block and dining hall in Gidan Marayu, an orphanage in Kano state.[11][12][2] Through AMMASCO International Limited, he partners with the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association to donate technical tools to thousands of technicians across the country every year. Awards[edit]
In 2021, he was awarded the Industrialist of the Year Award by The Sun Newspaper for his contributions to economic development in northern Nigeria.[16][17]
