Mwala School is a government secondary school for boys in Mwala, a village in Machakos County in Kenya.

History[edit]

The school was founded in in 1969 as a single stream mixed Harambee school. The first principal was John Mutyauvyu Mulwa and the initial enrolment was less than 20 students who lodged in the neighbouring Mwala market due to lack of boarding facilities. While it was a Harabee school there were only two teachers paid by the government, with other untrained teacher engaged by the school's Board of Governors. The British charity Project Trust sent volunteer teachers to work at the school over the period 1979–1982.[1] [2] In 1972 the first class took the EACE examinations.

The school expanded and in 1983 became a government sponsored school with a much increased number of students. The school began to offer boarding facilities within the grounds in 1985.
