My Singing Monsters: Characters
The Canadian video game My Singing Monsters features a large number of characters created by Big Blue Bubble and the game's developers.[1]. The characters are the titular "Singing Monsters". Each monster has its own unique vocal or instrumental line, with slight variations depending on which island it has been placed on. Many of the characters are avaliable on multiple in-game islands, and can be moved or copied depending on the game's mechanics.
Classifications[edit]
The various monsters are divided into different classes, usually by the specific in-game "Elements" they represent. Most monsters are represented by 1 - 4 elements. The elements were originally loosely based off the Classical Elements, excluding Fire and with the addition of "Cold". Later, five "Ethereal" elements were added, followed by Legendary, Fire, and various others. The current in-game elements consist of the five Natural elements (Cold, Earth, Water, Nature, and Air), Fire, the five Ethereal elements (Plasma, Shadow, Mech, Crystal, and Poison), the four Magical elements (Light, Psychic, Faerie, and Bone), Legendary, Mythical, the Supernatural element (Electricity), Celestial, and the six Seasonal elements (Spooktacle, Festival of Yay, Season of Love, Eggs-travaganza, Summersong, and Feast-ember)[2]
Natural, Fire, and Magical monsters can be obtained by "breeding" two monsters possessing the elemental makeup of the desired monster. Seasonal, Mythical, Rare, Epic, and certain Legendary and Ethereal monsters have specific breeding combinations required to obtain them, which do not necessarily reflect their elemental makeup. Certain Legendary and Ethereal monsters must be bred under special conditions on separate in-game "Islands", unique to their class. Supernatural, Celestial, Dipster, and certain Legendary monsters cannot be bred at all, but must be purchased with in-game currency.[2]
In the game, monsters may be levelled up by "Feeding" them with a currency called "Treats". When a monster has been placed on an Island (in-game locations which the player can place monsters and objects, and otherwise interact with the environment), they produce various types of in-game currency. This currency may be collected periodically by tapping the monster. The more a monster is fed and levelled up, the more currency it produces.
Natural Monsters[edit]
Natural Monsters are the first class of monsters players encounter. They are the cheapest and easiest to breed out of all the classes in-game. They consist of the elements of Air, Cold, Earth, Plant, and Water. They first appear on the Natural Islands, which, in order of appearance, are Plant Island, Cold Island, Air Island, Water Island, and Earth Island. When fed to Level 5, all Natural Monsters may be "Teleported" to the Colossingum, which offers alternative game modes. At level 15, all Natural Monsters may be "Placed" on Gold Island. This essentially puts a copy of the monster on Gold Island, where it does not produce currency and cannot be edited. Certain Natural Monsters may be Teleported to Shugabush Island at level 15. Additionally, all Natural Monsters may be Placed on Tribal Island, a multiplayer Island which offers an alternative play style. Some Natural Monsters are also available on the Fire and Magical Islands. Additionally, all Naturals have a "Rare" and "Epic" variant, which are only available during in-game events, and are harder to obtain than their regular counterparts.
The single-element Natural Monsters may be purchased for the easily obtainable "Coins" in the in-game shop. All monsters consisting of two or more elements must be either bred or purchased for the more valuable "Diamonds", with the price increasing as more elements are present.
Currently, there are no quintuple-element Natural Monsters available in My Singing Monsters.

Fire Monsters[edit]
Fire Monsters are another class of monsters which possess the element of Fire. They were originally classified as Natural Monsters, but were made into their own class in March of 2020. Like Naturals, Fire Monsters may be bred or purchased in the shop. Unlike Naturals, all Fire Monsters, regardless of elemental makeup, must be bought with a seperate currency called "Relics". The number of Relics needed to purchase each monster increases as more elements are present. They are available on the islands of Fire Haven and Fire Oasis, as well as every Magical Island. Kayna is also unlockable on Tribal Island.
The element of Fire was first introduced on August 6, 2015 with the addition of Tribal Island. On this island, groups of players must cooperate in feeding their specific monster, which in turn increases the level of the Tribe. At level 100, Kayna would be unlocked and would sing with the player's monsters. Shortly after, on September 8, 2015, a new game was launched called My Singing Monsters: Dawn of Fire. This game was a prequel to My Singing Monsters, set earlier in the timeline of the game when the element of Fire was commonplace. This game introduced every type of Fire Monster. On November 20, 2018, the island Fire Haven was added to My Singing Monsters, bringing more Fire Monsters to the main game. Since then, Fire Monsters have been periodically added to the main game, usually on Magical Islands.
Currently, there are seven quadruple-element Fire Monsters absent from the main game, as well as two quintuple-element monsters. All Fire Monsters have a Rare variant, and currently, only Kayna has an Epic variant.

Magical Monsters[edit]
Magical Monsters are another class of monsters first added in 2019. They are currently only available on the four Magical Islands, each of which represents one of the Magical Elements; Psychic, Faerie, Bone, and Light. Any monster that contains a Magical element is considered a Magical Monster, even if they posses Fire. Each Magical Island contains one Magical element, two Natural elements, and Fire. Additionally, single-element Magicals may be Teleported to Magical Sanctum, where they produce a different type of in-game currency. The single-element Magicals can be purchased with Coins on the Magical Islands or Diamonds on Magical Sanctum. Magical Monsters containing two or more elements must be either Bred or purchased for Diamonds, with the price increasing as more elements are present. Magical Monsters that contain Fire do not have to be purchased with Relics.
Within the lore of the game, the Magical Islands are said to have taken the place of the four "Outer Islands" from the prequel game, Dawn of Fire. Psychic Island was the first added to the game (originally called Fire Frontier), followed by Faerie in 2019, Bone in 2020, and Light in 2020. Magical Sanctum is another Magical Island, which requires single-element Magicals to be Teleported to it. From there, they can used to breed new Magical Monsters, and produce "Shards".
Currently, no Magicals have an Epic variant, and only Theremind has a Rare variant.

Ethereal Monsters[edit]
Ethereal Monsters are another class of monsters added gradually from 2013-2014. They function much differently compared to most other classes in the game, and are considered very hard to obtain. There are five Ethereal Elements: Plasma, Shadow, Mech, Crystal, and Poison. Rather than each element having their own Island, each single-element Ethereal must be bred on a Natural Island, Fed to level 15, then "Teleported" to Ethereal Island. From there, single-element Ethereals may breed to create double-element monsters. The chances of breeding single-element Ethereals on Natural Islands are extremely low, and only specific breeding combinations can be used. These chances are occasionally raised during in-game events.
Once Teleported to Ethereal Island, the monsters produce a currency unique to the Island called "Shards". These can only be used on Ethereal and Tribal Island, and function similar to Coins.
All Ethereals have a Rare variant (referred to as "Rarethereals"). Currently, only Ghazt possesses an Epic variant. There are no double- or quadruple-element Ethereals in the game.

Supernatural Monsters[edit]
Supernatural is a unique class of monsters containing only one element: Electricity. Supernatural Monsters function very differently from any other class in the game. They cannot be breed or be bred at all. Instead, they must be purchased for in-game currency. When bought, they do not immediately sing like most monsters, but instead must be powered up or otherwise activated in some way. The class is divided into two sub-classes: the Wubbox and Wublins.
The original Wubbox was added on May 9, 2013. It must be purchased in the in-game shop for an extremely high price, incubated as an egg, then Placed as an inactive box, resembling a temple or crypt. From there, the player must "Box" one of each required monster. This causes the monster to disappear completely, as if it has been absorbed into the Wubbox. After Boxing the required monsters, the player may activate the Wubbox, unlocking its song and animations. The Rare Wubbox is usually considered a seperate monster, as it must be purchased for "Starpower", has different animations and songs, and is available year-round, unlike all other Rare Monsters. The Rare Wubbox is powered up in the same way as the original, but can only accept Rare variants of the monsters.
The Wubbox is available on all 5 Natural Islands, Ethereal Island, and Wublin Island. It may also be Placed on Gold Island. The Rare Wubbox is currently only available on the 5 Natural Islands, and can also be Placed on Gold Island. Both can be fed like regular monsters, except on Wublin Island. On Wublin Island, the Wubbox cannot be fed and produces in-game currency in the same way as the Wublins. On the Natural Islands, both Wubbox produce coins, while on Ethereal Island, it produces Shards. When on Ethereal Island, the Wubbox is hinted at being a different class altogether, "Superethereal". This does not affect gameplay in any way and the Wubbox is still generally considered a Supernatural Monster.
The plural of Wubbox is genereally considered to be Wubbox (for example, "a Wubbox", "multiple Wubbox").
Monster Name | Element | Island(s) | Voice Actor | Instrument |
---|---|---|---|---|
Wubbox | Electricity | Plant, Cold, Air, Water, Earth, Gold, Ethereal, Wublin | N/A | Electronic Dubstep Kit |
Rare Wubbox | Electricity | Plant, Cold, Air, Water, Earth, Gold | Unknown | Vocoder |
Wublins are the second sub-class of Supernatural Monsters. They were added gradually from 2016-2017, during the event #WakeUpTheWublins. Like the Wubbox, they must be purchased from the in-game shop, after which they are stylized as dormant statues. From here, the player must "Zap" the "eggs" of specific monsters into the statue from the Breeding Structure on other Islands. After Zapping the required eggs, the Wublin may be "woke up", unlocking its song and animations. From here, the Wublin produces various types of in-game currencies. Wublins cannot be bred, Teleported, fed, or levelled up. There are no Rare or Epic Wublins.
Within the game's lore, the Wubbox is the creator of the Wublins. The Wubbox is also present on Wublin Island.

Legendary Monsters[edit]
Legendary is a class containing only one element of the same name. It is divided into two sub-classes: Shugafam and Werdo. Within the lore of the game, Legendary Monster share some form of connection to the human world. Originally, Legendary only consisted of the Shugafam sub-class, with the Werdos being added in 2017.
The Shugafam sub-class refers to a group of characters created as a collaboration with Grammy Award-winning artist Kristian Bush, from the country music group Sugarland. The 2013 collaboration introduced the Legendary class to symbolize the Shugafam's connection to the human world. The new monster, Shugabash, was modeled after and voiced by Bush. Bush also voiced the Shugavox. The Shugabush and most of the Shugafam sub-class are modeled after Bush.
Within the game, the Shugabush is bred on Plant Island, from which it can be Teleported to Shugabush Island, after reaching level 15. From there, various Natural Monsters may be Teleported to Shugabush Island, after reaching level 15. On Shugabush Island, the Naturals may breed with the Shugabush, creating the rest of the Shugafam. The rest of the Shugafam cannot breed, or be Teleported or Placed on any other Islands. There are no Rare or Epic Shugafam.

Werdo is the second sub-class of Legendary Monsters, first added in 2017. Unlike the majority of other characters in the franchise, these monsters sing fully comprehensive lyrics in English. When Placed on an Island, they often extend the song or add verses or a repeating chorus. They cannot be bred, but must be purchased for Relics in the shop. Currently, they are only available on the Natural Islands, with two on each. They cannot be Teleported or otherwise moved to any other Islands. There are no Rare or Epic Werdos.
Each of the Werdos is voiced by, and named after, a Big Blue Bubble employee and voice actor for the game.

Celestial Monsters[edit]
Celestial is a class containing only the element Celestial. The 12 characters in this category were originally only available in the prequel, Dawn of Fire. They were brought into the main game as statues that must be "woke up" in the same way as Wublins. Upon activation, they appear as baby versions of the characters from Dawn of Fire. Like wublins, they cannot be bred, Teleported, Placed, fed, or levelled up. They must be bought from the shop with Diamonds, then filled with the required Eggs to be activated. They then produce various types of in-game currency. There are no Rare or Epic Celestials.
Within the lore of the game, each Celestial represents a Natural, Ethereal, Supernatural, or Fire Element. They are portrayed as a pantheon of ancient gods who brought life into the world of the game.

Excluding Gobbleygourd, they can also be obtained year-round via the "Scratch Ticket" mechanic. Seasonal Monsters are also periodically available out of season via in-game events. All Seasonals have a Rare and Epic variant, excluding Gobbleygourd. All Seasonals can be Placed on Gold Island, excluding Gobbleygourd.

Mythical Monsters[edit]
Mythical is a class containing only the element of the same name. It refers to only two characters, G'joob and Yawstrich. This class was originally created as an exclusive for the now discontinued PlayStation Vita. After the discontinuation of the PS Vita, the two monsters were made available on all platforms.
The two characters must be bred on their native islands with a unique breeding combination. From there, they can be fed, levelled up, and produce Coins. They cannot be Teleported or Placed on any other Islands, and cannot breed. There are no Rare or Epic Mythicals.

Yawstrich | Mythical | Air | David Kerr | N/A |
Dipsters[edit]
Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La and Ti are similar monsters released in 2016[3]. They have only one line, "Dip", sung at different pitches. They all have the same single element, "Dipster", and are bought with a unique in-game currency called "Keys". They are available on all the Natural and Fire Islands, as well as Ethereal Island. Their voice actor is unknown. Their animation is kept simple, with the characters popping out of holes in the ground to sing their line before quickly reentering. Their heads are decorated with various nature-themed items.
