Mylo
Mylo is a digital insurance agency headquartered in Leawood, Kansas. It was founded in 2015 within Lockton Companies and provides online insurance shopping, coverage recommendations, and carrier comparisons for small businesses and individuals.[1] Mylo is licensed in all 50 U.S. states and offers commercial and personal insurance products through multiple carriers.[2] The company separated from Lockton in 2023 and became an independent business backed by Group 1001.[3]
History
Mylo was established in 2015 inside Lockton Companies as a digital platform designed to expand access to insurance products.[4] Its model focused on using technology to manage a high volume of small policies.[5] The company developed a distribution approach that allows partners in various industries to integrate Mylo's insurance platform into their services.[6]
In 2018, Mylo received a minority investment from Guggenheim Partners to support platform development and growth.[7] In 2023, the company was spun out of Lockton with investment from Group 1001.[8]
Technology
Mylo uses a proprietary recommendation system, referred to as the "Mind of Mylo™," which applies predictive analytics to suggest coverage options and carriers.[9] Its cloud-based platform can be integrated into partner businesses through APIs[10] or embedded widgets.[11]
Services
The company provides insurance products in several categories, including business, auto, home, life, and health insurance, as well as small group benefits.[12] Customers can purchase policies online or through licensed agents in every state. Some sources describe Mylo's model as combining digital tools and human advisory support[13][14]
Leadership
Mylo was founded by David Embry, who serves as Chief Executive Officer. Embry previously held leadership roles at SelectQuote and J.P. Morgan Chase.[15][16] Some industry publications have highlighted his involvement in insurance technology initiatives.[17][18]
Belen Tokarski joined Mylo in 2019 and became President and Chief Operating Officer in 2022.[19] She previously worked in commercial insurance and digital operations at Insureon and CNA Financial.[20] Her work at Mylo has been covered in insurance industry media.[21][22]
Recognition
Mylo has been included in several industry lists and award programs, including the FinTech Global InsurTech 100,[23] CNBC World's Top Fintech Companies,[24] and Forbes America's Best Startup Employers.[25] It has also received FinTech Breakthrough Awards in multiple years.[26][27][28] Coverage of the company has appeared in trade publications such as Insurance Business, Insurtech Insights, and Insurance Innovation Reporter[29][30][31]
