Myriam Bronzwaar (born 28 September 1965 in Hasselt) is a Belgian actress known for her work in television, film, and theater. She gained prominence through her roles in Flemish television series and has also contributed to voice dubbing for major international films.
Career
Bronzwaar studied at Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp. After her studies, she co-founded the cabaret group Zwiep en Brons with classmate Ingeborg Sergeant. The duo won the jury prize at the Leids Cabaret Festival in 1988.
She is widely recognized for her roles in television series such as Big & Betsy, Droge voeding, kassa 4, Spoed, and most notably as Julia Van Capelle in Thuis.[1]
In 2017, Bronzwaar returned to her role as Julia Van Capelle in Thuis after a three-month break. She described the storyline about Julia’s mysterious disappearance and return as “the most exciting plotline” of her entire time on the show, adding, "I had been waiting nine years for such a storyline." She enjoyed portraying a more tormented version of Julia, which differed from the character’s earlier cheerful demeanor. Bronzwaar also emphasized the need to balance TV work with theatre to avoid burnout.[2]
Bronzwaar has also worked as a voice actor for Flemish-language dubs of international films, including roles originally played by Helena Bonham Carter. She voiced Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series, the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland (2010), and the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella (2015).
Personal Life
In 2014, Bronzwaar spoke candidly about her struggles with mental health, revealing that she had experienced dark thoughts and a period of depression. She emphasized the importance of seeking help and the support she received during this challenging time.[3]
In 2016, Bronzwaar revealed that she had experienced burnout, which led to the end of a long-term relationship. She described the breakup as a moment of personal liberation, saying, “I can breathe again.” She chose to take a step back to focus on her well-being and regain her energy before returning to acting.[4]
