Mythology of Teen Wolf

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The mythology of the MTV supernatural action drama series Teen Wolf follows a teenager named Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), who is bitten by an Alpha werewolf and must cope with how it affects his life and the lives of those closest to him and Dylan O'Brien as "Stiles" Stilinski, Scott's best friend. Most mythological elements in Teen Wolf relate to supernatural creatures and draw heavily from Greek mythology, Norse mythology, Japanese mythology, Aztec mythology, Native American beliefs and Celtic herbalism. The show has created its own mythos centered around shapeshifters and their connections to one-another throughout the world.

Alphas[edit]

Leaders of a pack of werewolves, the strongest of them all. Signified by red, glowing eyes in the show, as well as increased strength, as compared to other werewolves and other supernatural creatures.

Alpha Pack Symbol[edit]

Symbol that represents the pack. Scott's symbol is two circles. Other pack symbols that have been seen in the show include the symbol for Satomi's Pack (three circles stacked on top of one another, representing the Buddhist practice of stacking stones on top of one another), and the Primal Pack (a crescent on top of a circle, representing the moon).

Known Alphas: Peter Hale, Derek Hale, Scott McCall, Deucalion, Ethan, Aiden, Kali, Ennis, Mrs. Finch, Talia Hale, Laura Hale, Garrett Douglas, and Satomi Ito.

Anchor[edit]

A "werewolf's anchor" is that which they can concentrate on to keep themselves human.

Allison is Scott's anchor, because thinking about her and hearing her voice helps him fight the bloodthirst. Derek claims that his anchor is anger, presumably his pain over the death of his family. Isaac's anchor is his father, who wasn't always the abusive man he became. Scott’s anchor then changes from Allison as they are not together anymore and in Season 3 episode 13 Melissa McCall has to tell Scott to be his own anchor because he is struggling with control and this seems to work as he regains himself.

Anuk-Ite[edit]

The Anuke-Ite is a supernatural creature of Native American origin that has the ability to feed off of fear, it also used fear to get into its victims' minds. If someone were to look the Anuke-Ite in the eye they would be turned into stone and die (however werewolves seem to survive for a little in this state), so therefore they had to learn how to fight using their other senses. To learn how to fight without seeing, Scott and Malia went to Deucalion for help.

Astomi[edit]

In Greek and Roman mythology, the Astomi are an ancient legendary race of people who had no need to eat or drink anything at all.

The only Astomi that appears in the series is called "The Mute" (portrayed by Joseph Gatt), the first Benefactor assassin Scott's pack encounters. He looks mostly human, but has only smooth skin from his nose to his chin. He is a trained military fighter and used tomahawks to hack up his victims, and a wrist keyboard with a computer-generated voice to communicate. In the episode "Muted", he kills the Walcotts, a family of Wendigos. In the episode "The Benefactor", The Mute attacks Peter Hale and warns him that Derek is next. He sets up a claymore mine at the school to kill Derek, but is thwarted by Sheriff Stilinski. As he reads him his rights, Peter appears and slashes the assassin to death.

Known Astomi: The Mute

Banshees[edit]

Banshees are human females that access the supernatural to predict the deaths of others. They are also known as the 'Wailing Women'. They are Harbingers of death: they can hear noises, voices in their heads that indicate, and are able to sense, impending death. They are often lead to sites associated with death, such as murder scenes, graves and tombs. They sometimes write or draw messages from the voices subconsciously.

Banshees are not supernatural as in the manner as a shapeshifter. Chris and Gerard Argent explain in "The Maid of Gevaudan" that banshees have a connection to the supernatural, and they are able to access it, but are not controlled by it. For example, Lydia can cross Mountain Ash barriers which no supernatural creature on the show can cross. Also, because of this rule, they are immune to supernatural phenomena, as Lydia was unaffected by kanima venom and the bite of an Alpha werewolf. The Wild Hunt makes no attempts to capture banshees, even when determined to wipe out a town's entire population; Wild Hunt gunslingers in 1985 Canaan cautiously studied banshee resident Lenore, before leaving her alone, and otherwise allowed Lydia to pass them freely.

Known Banshees: Lydia Martin, Meredith Walker, Lorraine Martin, and Lenore.

Abilities[edit]

  • Harbinger of death: Banshees can connect to a supernatural network that broadcasts messages about death and dying. Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis says that this frequency is "the whispers of other banshees." Banshees on the show are able to sense when someone is about to die and this is accompanied by a trance-like state drawing them to those who are near death. With time and practice, banshees eventually become more aware of their actions whenever they are experiencing their premonitions. This was seen in "Motel California" when Lydia heard the voices of the people killed at the motel. In "Letharia Vulpina", Peter uses Lydia to listen to the whispers from his sister's claws. This frequency also allows a banshee to communicate with other banshees, to relay their own messages surrounding death to other banshees no matter the distance. They can even share this frequency with other harbingers of death, such as a hellhound. Lydia's banshee spirit has shown a supernatural and romantic connection with the hellhound spirit within Jordan Parrish.
  • Sound Divination: Banshees can use sound vibrations to divine more information regarding those whose deaths they are foretelling. In "Riddled" Lydia heard Stiles' voice coming from a speaker and other whispers when she plucked the strings in his bedroom. Meredith Walker was able to divine Allison Argent's upcoming death from a disconnected phone and plucking piano strings in "Echo House" and "Insatiable."
  • Banshee Scream: A banshee's most valuable talent is their banshee wail, which can be used to produce various effects. Peter says Lydia's scream is a means to an end, drowning out all other sounds so that she can focus on the voices only she can hear.

Lydia is also able to communicate with a fellow Banshee, Meredith Walker, to tell Stiles that she doesn't want to be found (see "Insatiable"). In Season 5, Meredith says they can use their scream as an offensive weapon as well. The scream is seen as a strong sound wave capable of throwing people and objects at short distances. According to Dr. Valack, in "The Last Chimera", she could shatter a human skull with her voice as well. This is evidenced in "Lie Ability" as Valack, himself, meets this fate.

Bardo[edit]

Bardo is a Tibetan word for in between state. It describes the experiences of a consciousness after death but before it has been connected to a new body.

Bardo is the state in which a consciousness can either attain enlightenment or be returned to the cycle of rebirth. Bardo lasts for 49 days following death. During this time 100 deities appear to the deceased. If these are all recognized as illusions, then the deceased attains enlightenment.

  • Bardo of Death: dissolving into the white light. This bardo passes very quickly, and most people do not even notice it. Those that do have a chance to enter the door to the spiritual world, bypassing the bardo of the afterlife.
  • 1st Bardo: the soul starts to encounter spiritual beings that may be frightening because of their power. They are accompanied by terrifying lights and sounds.
  • 2nd Bardo: spiritual travel, where the soul travels the ocean of consciousness. The dangers are guilt and fear, for someone who has not done sufficient spiritual training. A soul may be caught here, unaware that it has died and unable to attain enlightenment. The goal of the soul in the second bardo is to wake up and lucid dream, so it can move toward a state of spiritual awareness. A guide, saint, or guru can help guide a soul out of this bardo.
  • 3nd Bardo: reincarnation, a soul is presented with images, and its attraction or repulsion from those images determine where it will be reincarnated.

Black ooze[edit]

Whenever something isn't going right within a shapeshifter's body, it seems to produce a black ooze in place of blood. The ooze is thicker than blood would be. If a person is rejecting the Bite, the ooze comes out of every orifice: mouth, eyes, nose, and ears. It is a signal that they are incurable and going to die.

Jackson bleeds black ooze when his body rejects metamorphosing into a werewolf but seems to stop when he instead metamorphoses into the kanima. Gerard bleeds and vomits black ooze when his body rejects the Bite because of his ingestion of mountain ash.

Berserkers[edit]

Berserkers are men who wear the skins/bones of bears within the Teen Wolf Universe. According to Chris Argent, Berserkers don't just wear the bear parts to channel the animal's ferocity, they actually metamorphose into animals themselves. Argent says their human side doesn't last long because they are not tempered by the moon.

Based on the two Berserker deaths shown: the body turns to dust at the moment of death suggesting they were no longer human.

Known Berserkers:Noah Patrick-Chimera.

Abilities[edit]

Enhanced Strength: Berserkers are high-octane, able to tear the human body apart. Their physical strength far surpasses that of the average Werewolf. Characters who have encountered them say that Berserkers are very fast, as demonstrated the first time we see one on-screen, and it is able to immediately catch up to two Werewolves who had a head start.

Enhanced Firearm Durability: The first reported Berserker death took hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Point-blank range explosions are also capable of killing Berserkers. Additionally, using his evolved power, Derek Hale was capable of killing a Berserker by ripping apart its skull mask.

Werejaguar Communication: The Werejaguar Kate Argent is able to create and control Berserkers. Theo Raeken explains that Werejaguars and Berserkers are connected to each other. This bond allows the Werejaguar to sense Berserkers and was demonstrated by Hayden Romero, who was a chimera with Werejaguar DNA.

Beast of Gevaudan[edit]

The Beast of Gevaudan, known as Sebastien Valet is unlike any other werewolf seen in the show so far. It is larger than even Peter Hale's monstrous form from Season 1 and, instead of shapeshifting, the Beast creates a body composed of what appears to be black smoke or shadows around itself.

Sebastien metamorphosed into a werewolf after drinking rainwater from the paw print of a wolf. While this piece of werewolf lore has been mentioned in the show before, this is the only example of it working.

According to Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis, his Beast form and metamorphosis come from how evil, how psychopathic he already was before he shapeshifted into a werewolf. The beast does not fit into any of the previously known categories of werewolf and was extremely powerful without the benefit of a pack or Alpha Werewolf status. The Beast of Gévaudan is based on real mythology that took place in France and was incorporated into the show.

C[edit]

Chimera[edit]

A Chimera is a being that has more than one set of distinct DNA in their genetic makeup. Chimerism can occur in humans by either organ transplantation or vanishing twin syndrome.

The mythological creature known as the chimera is described as a lion with the second head of a goat's and a tail that ends as a snake.

Throughout Season 5, the Dread Doctors perform experiment of pseudoscience on several people, recreating them into preternatural creatures, through science rather than magic. All of the recipients display features from more than one supernatural creature as a result of the experiment. These test subjects were dubbed Chimeras by Scott McCall due to them being hybrid creatures, having incongruous body parts from more than one creature. The Dread Doctors' aim was to discover, then gradually perfect the process to revive the perfect killer, the most notorious, most ferocious werewolf that ever lived: Sebastian Valet, the Beast of Gévaudan.

Experimental rules[edit]

In the duration of the experimentation committed by the Doctors, through their manipulation of the supernatural forces, to revive the ancient werewolf, the paranormal conditions fell through for the Chimeras:

  • The test subjects had to have genetic chimerism or organs from outside donors.
  • The latest Chimera test subject, if successful, would become the vessel for the Beast's spirit.
  • If the test subject were to bleed mercury, they would be declared a failure for being the vessel.
  • To proceed in the line of Chimera tests, the latest failure would have to be killed off.
  • If the failures were to be resurrected after death, the paranormal process wouldn't be compromised.
  • To revive the Beast, the Doctors first needed a perfect 'true evil'.
  • The successful Chimera would be the result of someone truly good being corrupted into becoming the true evil.

The Chimeras possess the traits of a particular supernatural creature they are remade into, but they are not supernatural, and so they are not affected by the everyday arcane rules:

  • They are able to handle mountain ash, as well as cast or cross barriers made out of said substance.
  • Those who are produced into were-creatures are not bound to the full moon.
  • Those who are remade into canine were-creatures don't follow the eye color rule. Those who've killed innocents will still exhibit yellow eyes.
  • Those who are part kanima retain their identity and do not instinctively seek a master.
  • They are not drawn to a beacon of power (e.g. a Nemeton).

Theo Raeken[edit]

Theodore "Theo" Raeken is the very first Chimera produced from the Dread Doctors' experiments. Nine years prior to the series, Theo was chosen to be a Chimera by the Doctors. They saw him as a perfect candidate for being the 'perfect evil' as Theo was a sociopath: he would willingly murder his responsibly caring sister as a child. After Theo killed his sister, he metamorphosed into a genetic chimera after the Dread Doctors harvested his sister's heart and transplanted the organ into him. The para-scientists eventually failed with Theo, but his failure was a turning point in their research, so they allowed him to survive. Afterwards, Theo became partners with the Doctors. He served the Dread Doctors during Season 5 by being their spy amongst Scott's Pack as they conducted their most recent line of experimentation, to find then experiment with truly good test subjects being corrupted. After the Doctors killed off the failures, Theo forms a pack with four of the failures, bringing them back to life, Hayden Romero, Corey Bryant, Tracy Stewart and Josh Diaz.

Theo is a Chimera hybrid of both a werewolf and a werecoyote. He shows the physiological traits and powers of both shapeshifters, including pack symbiosis, a 'Beta' werewolf metamorphosis, strength, reflexes, endurance, speed and senses. His werecoyote part allows him to shapeshift into both a full wolf and a full coyote form. Though Theo is a killer, he permanently displays the gold eyes of an innocent and cannot rise to Alpha rank in the supernatural sense. Theo then kills Josh and Tracy, to steal their sparks of power, gaining the capabilities of a kanima and a raiju, including electrokinesis, producing kanima venom and his abilities all being heightened.

Mason Hewitt[edit]

Mason Hewitt is a sophomore at Beacon Hills High School and an ally of Scott's Pack. He was the eleventh and final test subject in the Dread Doctors' current experiment pool in Beacon Hills. Mason was the success of the Doctors' experiment and their centuries' long work, becoming the vessel for the Beast of Gévaudan. Mason had genetic chimerism due to his being born with vanishing twin syndrome. Naturally and inherently good-hearted, kind and compassionate, Mason was an ideal candidate for being one who was 'truly good' for the Doctors whom they had to find a way to corrupt. The process worked and Mason became the Beast's vessel, causing him to periodically metamorphose into the Beast's demonic werewolf shape.

The Dread Doctors, having perfected the Chimera process, now want the Beast to remember itself as its original deceased human incarnation and identity, Sebastien Valet. The Dread Doctors use powerful sonic frequencies to trigger Mason's metamorphosis into the Beast and arrange for the beastly werewolf to gradually remember more of its former life to also gradually bring back Sebastien from the dead. The Doctors succeed in their actions, the Beast remembering its real name and Sebastien is revived, leaving Mason Hewitt erased from existence, but lives on a memory. Mason is saved by Scott's Pack who have the Beast remember itself as Mason Hewitt and Mason is freed, separated from the Beast's spirit.

Hayden Romero[edit]

Hayden Romero is a sophomore, and soccer player at Beacon Hills High School. She is genetically a chimera from a kidney transplant she had a few years previously. After being incubated by the Dread Doctors, she metamorphoses into a Chimera. Hayden is brought into the supernatural world through Scott's Pack and becomes the girlfriend of Liam Dunbar. Hayden is declared a failure and is killed by the Dread Doctors. Later, she is revived by Theo Raeken using the Soldier's blood to be part of his pack of Chimeras. Hayden rediscovers her humanity and leaves Theo for Scott's Pack so she can be with Liam. Hayden then completely loses her Chimera nature after willingly being bitten by Scott McCall, metamorphosing into a true supernatural Beta werewolf.

As a Chimera, Hayden was a werewolf and werejaguar hybrid. She has the natural abilities and traits of both species. She has heightened speed and senses. Her werewolf half gives her the talent to take pain from others and pack symbiosis. Her werejaguar part is known to allow her to sense and track berserkers including the berserker Chimera Noah Patrick.

Tracy Stewart[edit]

Tracy Stewart is a senior at Beacon Hills High School. She has chimerism due to her having an allogeniac skin graft. Tracy was the first Chimera in the Dread Doctors' newest experiment pool. When she metamorphosed into a Chimera, Tracy's metamorphoses manifested to her as night terrors due to her disorder. Eventually Tracy became psychologically locked away in her disorder from her being under the Dread Doctors' mind control, resulting in her having homicidal somnambulism. She went on a killing spree, including killing her own father, until she pukes mercury, indicating she is a failure and she is killed. Tracy is then revived by Theo Raeken using the Soldier's blood to form his Chimera pack, and Tracy becomes his most loyal, and most ruthless combatant and right hand. Tracy is then killed by Theo to steal her power.

As a Chimera, Tracy is part werewolf and part kanima. In her metamorphosis, she gains the claws and fangs of a werewolf, has a wolf's instinct to follow her Alpha and the symbiosis from being in a pack of canine werecreatures, but gains the hide, venom and the wall-crawling abilities of a kanima. Tracy has heightened strength, speed, agility and reflexes and an extremely heightened healing factor. Her abilities were the most potent in Theo's Chimera Pack. Her spark of power is stolen by Theo.

Josh Diaz[edit]

Josh Diaz is a junior at Beacon Hills High School. Josh was the fourth Chimera in the Dread Doctors' Beacon Hills' line of experiments. He is a carefree party-goer who drank and took drugs recreationally. The Dread Doctors' plan for Josh's corruption was to have him become feral. Josh became animalistically hungry for electricity, gnawing on electric cables at the high school and Beacon Hills Hospital. When Josh is declared a failure, he is killed by Theo Raeken at the Doctors' behest. Josh is then revived by Theo later with the Soldier's blood to be part of his pack to serve him as his Alpha. Like Hayden and Corey, Josh rediscovers his humanity. Theo then kills Josh again to take Josh's electrical power.

Josh is part werewolf, like many of the other Chimeras and having the power of electrokinesis, he can sense, absorb and weaponize electricity.

Corey Bryant[edit]

Corey is a high school student from a negligent family. He is the eighth to be metamorphosed into a Chimera. Unlike the others, the organ that Corey received for his transplant that was needed to metamorphose into a Chimera remains unknown. Shortly after his powers appeared Corey began to vomit the silvery fluid characteristic of the failures, he was killed by the surgeon and he is resurrected by Theo a few days later. After this traumatic experience he loses contact with his humanity even if he remains the "less" obscure Chimera compared to the others. Only after being burned alive and narrowly surviving he realizes that by not staying with Theo that he will survive. Thanks to Mason he regains his humanity and rediscovers what it is to love someone. After the battle with The Beast he is the only Chimera still alive and has retained his powers.

His transition was made by the appearance of accelerated healing then of superhuman strength and the last power to appear and be shown on the screen is that of a camouflage (invisibility).

Donovan Donati[edit]

Donovan is a high school student who threatened to injure Stiles's dad. he was also a Chimera due to having an allogeniac skin graft, and a cornea transplant. At some point in the past, Donovan's father was partnered with Deputy Stilinski. Donovan aspired to be a cop like his father. When Donovan learned about his father's condition from a shooting, he rushed to Beacon Hills Hospital on his motorcycle, where he got into an accident that led to him being taken in an ambulance as well. Both men needed surgery, and Donovan received a skin graft to help with the healing of his wounds. unfortunately his dad died from his wounds since he never recovered from them.

Dread doctors[edit]

Druid[edit]

Druids act as advisors and emissaries, to the werewolf packs. This connection formed in ancient Greece after King Lycaon and his sons had metamorphosed into wolves by the God Zeus. The Druids had shapeshifting abilities and, while they could not undo the curse, they taught Lycaon how to shift back and forth between human and wolf.

Druidic Symbols[edit]

Celtic fivefold knot:

The Celtic fivefold knot was used by druids to mark the tree that was a Nemeton. It is visible on the Beacon Hills Nemeton in the root cellar of it and it is also visible on a desk owned by Chris Argent. In each fold on Argent’s desk, he has the 5 sets of human sacrifices needed for the Darach to gain power which are Guardians, Healers, Warriors, Philosophers and Virgins.

Darach[edit]

Whereas Druid means "Wise Oak" and indicates a dedication to philosophy and religion, Darach means "Dark Oak" and denotes a perversion of the Druid's beliefs. Deaton claims the word would be applied to one who "went down the wrong path". When Deucalion had the various Alphas kill their packs, he also had them kill their emissaries. Kali loved Julia, and while she brutally slashed her and left her for dead, she could not bring herself to deliver the killing blow. Julia survived by making it to a nearby Druid Nemeton (sacred space) which had been given power by the recent death of a virgin (Paige in "Visionary"). This power reserve allowed her to survive until help arrived. All the sacrifices she performed in Season 3 were an attempt to gather enough power to defeat The Alpha pack during the upcoming lunar eclipse.

Abilities[edit]

In addition to the standard abilities of a druid - including their power over mountain ash as well as their medicinal knowledge and herbalist lore - darachs possess stronger and more potent abilities from tapping into the laws of nature and living animal or human sacrifices which make them immensely strong and allow some degree of control over both their own appearance as well as access to overpowering strength and the ability to let off psychic blasts or influence the minds of others. Their powers are fueled by sacrificing lives to Nemetons in a specific order; warriors, philosophers, guardians, healers and virgins.

  • Supernatural Strength: Darachs possess a large amount of strength capable of surpassing that of Alpha pack werewolves. Jennifer Blake was able to overpower twin Alphas Aiden and Ethan, even physically "breaking" the part of their essence that made them Alphas - losing both their status as well as their power to merge. She was also able to fight off the Alpha Kali and subsequently kill her through telekinesis. The only Alphas powerful enough to overpower her was the Demon Wolf Alpha Deucalion as well as the True Alpha Scott McCall. Excessive use of her magic caused her to lose a portion of her strength momentarily.
  • Psychic Blasts:Psychic Blasts are like patches of air packed together and they can be moved with a darach's hands or body.

E[edit]

F[edit]

G[edit]

Girtablilu[edit]

A Girtablilu is a Chimera that is a mixture of a scorpion and a werewolf, a Girtablilu's shapeshifting abilities can allow it to gain spikes along its limbs to give it a way to inject the venom into its victim. Also when a Girtablilu shapeshifts its eye will turn fully black like a scorpion's.

The Ghost Riders[edit]

Horse riders that wear all black clothes and only 'ride' when the storm is happening. They take people and erase them from history. Anyone who sees them, disappears and everyone that knew them forget about them. Scott's best friend 'Stiles' Stilinski is taken by them in Season 6.

Abilities[edit]

  • Supernatural Strength:like all supernatural creatures the Ghost Riders have their own powers.
  • Memory Erasure:When a Ghost Rider takes someone they erase that person and any personal items of theirs so that they cannot be found.
  • Teleportation:They have the supernatural ability to go from one place to another quickly.

H[edit]

Hellhound[edit]

Hellhounds are described as harbingers of death and guardians of the supernatural who accompany the Wild Hunt. Believed to be black spectral dogs with fiery glowing eyes, Hellhounds have been shown to inhabit human bodies and live human lives with only a vague subconscious comprehension of what they truly are. Thus far, the only Hellhound seen in the series is Deputy Jordan Parrish. Hellhounds are drawn to Nemetons like all supernatural creatures and they tend to collect the bodies of supernatural creatures - including pseudo-supernatural Chimeras - to bury them at the roots of Nemetons to restore and strengthen the trees' power.

Known Hellhounds:Jordan Parrish and Halwyn.

Characteristics[edit]

Hellhounds are humanoid in appearance when manifesting within a human body. They only reveal their true nature when exposed to direct fire; gaining elongated and sharper teeth including the upper and lower canines similar to those of a werewolf but with the lower canine teeth being noticeably more pronounced. There fingernails elongate into blackened claws similar to those of a werewolf. There eyes glow a fiery red-orange and fire erupts from their body; leaving them unharmed by fire and capable of burning through mountain ash barriers or melting steel. Hellhounds are instinctively driven to guard the supernatural world.

Abilities[edit]

  • Supernatural Strength: Hellhounds possess preternatural strength rivaling that of a shapeshifted Beast Alpha; sufficient to either overturn a jeep without effort or to do direct hand-to-hand battle with the Beast of Gevaudan. Hellhounds are unafraid when facing any supernatural opponent. Humans are effectively powerless against Hellhounds in regards to physical prowess; Alphas with their Packs as well as Packs of Chimeras may be able to hold off a Hellhound for a time. As Hellhounds have not yet been seen in their full lupine form, the true extent of their strength and ferocity remains undetermined; far surpassing that of Alphas.
  • Accelerated Healing: Hellhounds possess the same resistance to injury and regenerative capabilities as other shapeshifters; most wounds heal within seconds without scars or lasting discomfort. They possess a high tolerance for pain as they can endure fatal injuries such as gunshots or walk through the force of extreme temperatures without dilapidating discomfort or permanent damage. Even metaphysical attacks such as the scream of a banshee cannot cause a Hellhound injury. Hellhounds also possess a similarly extended lifespan due to their healing slowing down the aging process; they are also immune to all diseases and poisons.

Human Sacrifices[edit]

Human Sacrifices were groups of people that were killed and brought to the Nemeton to try and help the tree regain its power. These groups were virgins, warriors, healers, philosophers, and guardians.

Hunters[edit]

The hunters are people/groups who have hunted the supernatural for years, even centuries and they can only destroy the supernatural who have injured or killed the innocent but they will not always follow the hunter's code.

Known Hunters:Allison Argent, Chris Argent, Kate Argent, Victoria Argent, Alexander Argent, Henri Argent, Gerard Argent, Monroe, Araya Calavera, Severo Calavera, Deputy Vargas, Bennett, Marie-Jeanne Valet, Gabe and Nolan.

The Hunters' Code[edit]

The old code was originally made by Gerard and Chris Argent it was "Nous Chassons Ceux Qui Nous Chassent" or in an English Translation "We Hunt Those Who Hunt Us", but was later changed by Allison to "Nous Protégeons Ceux Qui Ne Peuvent Pas Se Protéger Eux-mêmes" or in an English translation "We protect those who cannot protect themselves".

I[edit]

J[edit]

K[edit]

Kanima[edit]

It happens when a person bitten by a werewolf has no self-notice or does not see their self-worth, character and purpose. It is rare. The Kanima is a reptilian-looking human, with Kanima 'venom' running through its veins. This venom, ejected by its claws can cause complete paralysis. A Kanima can become a werewolf if they resolve that in their personality or past that caused them to take the shape of a Kanima in the first place.

Kitsune[edit]

A Kitsune is described as a supernatural creature that takes on the characteristics of a fox. Natural tricksters, the Kitsune are the leaders and the owners of the shadowy samurai called the Oni.

Known Kitsune:Kira Yukimura and Noshiko Yukimura.

Abilities[edit]

  • Longevity: A Kitsune's natural lifespan is measured in hundreds of years. The eldest living Kitsune was over 900 years of age while still maintaining her relatively middle-aged appearance and vitality. Kitsune age at a human rate from birth until they reach maturity, at which point their aging slows considerably and adapts to the aging cycle of a mature Kitsune. The exact age limit of a Kitsune is unknown as the eldest one seen thus far was a Nogitsune of over 1,000 years of age while still maintaining its power and supernatural strength despite being disembodied and requiring a human vessel.
  • Enhanced Strength: While not as strong as Pack werewolves, Kitsune possess enhanced strength sufficient to give them the advantage in direct combat with a human opponent. As Kitsune are warriors and tricksters by nature, their strength allows them to overpower and dominate lesser supernatural creatures such as Omega werewolves or untrained Kitsune. Kitsune strike with superhuman force while wielding katanas and when infused with their element; enough to cause considerable injury to werewolves or other supernatural creatures; causing their healing abilities to be impaired by the force of their strength and supernatural element. Trained and experienced adult Kitsune are the strongest.
  • Superior Reflexes:The Kitsune being like foxes have quick reaction and are able to move with speed and ease.
  • Accelerated Healing:Like all supernatural creatures the kitsune have an accelerated healing process.

Types of Kitsune[edit]

  • Thunder Kitsune:
  • Nogitsune: A Nogitsune is a dark Kitsune which feeds upon pain and chaotic destruction. The Nogitsune possesses many of the same physical strengths as a normal Kitsune with the exception that it does not possess its own physical body and must possess the body of one who is psychically vulnerable. Nogitsune coexists within the soul of the vessel while it is possessed; suppressing the consciousness. The Nogitsune takes the form of a firefly when disembodied. A Nogitsune's vessel can only be vanquished with the use of a magical katana or being supernaturally transformed such as being bitten by an Alpha werewolf.

L[edit]

Löwenmensch[edit]

A unique shapeshifter of the lycanthrope species supposedly created through the interbreeding of a werewolf with a lion. A Löwenmensch - German for "lion man" - is similar to a werewolf in appearance and abilities. However, being of two distinctly aggressive species, the Löwenmensch is notably stronger and possibly more aggressive than a common werewolf. Just like werewolves, Löwenmensch can operate in Packs due to there being a clear hierarchy of Alphas, Betas and Omegas within their genome, inherited from their werewolf forebears. The only Löwenmensch depicted was Garret Douglas, a Nazi soldier of World War II who sought the Wild Hunt.

Lycaon[edit]

Lycaon was a Greek citizen who not only refused to honor the gods of Olympus, he challenged them. He invited Zeus to a banquet where he tried to serve him the flesh of a human being. Angered, Zeus blew the place apart with his lightning bolts and then punished Lycaon and his sons by turning them into wolves.

In the world and mythology of Teen Wolf, Lycaon and his offspring became the first werewolves.

Mountain Ash[edit]

Mountain Ash is a powder that is known to resist the supernatural and is used for many different purposes. Mountain Ash is used by Druids as well as Darachs and can even be produced by them in a small circle for their protection as seen by Marin Morell and Jennifer Blake against the Alpha pack and Scott McCall. Firstly it comes from a Rowan tree and is used as a barrier to protect from the supernatural as no supernatural being can cross a Mountain Ash barrier. Furthermore, the wood can be used in buildings to provide further protection as seen in Beacon Hills Animal Clinic and later Scott McCall’s house. Mountain Ash affects all supernatural creatures except Banshees as explained by Chris Argent in "Maid of Gévaudan" as Banshees have access to the supernatural world but are not controlled by it. Also Chimeras can cross Mountain Ash barriers and even cast them as well as Banshees as they are not supernatural creatures but experiments of pseudoscience created by the Dread Doctors in season 5. Mountain Ash barriers can be broken by supernatural creatures but it requires a great amount of force. Scott McCall broke Jennifer Blake’s Mountain Ash barrier, in order to save his friends and family, when he became a True Alpha but as he states later, it almost killed him. Also the Oni managed to break through the Mountain Ash defences in Scott McCall's house with great force. Mountain Ash can also be used as an offence as seen by Scott McCall and Marie-Jean Argent (née Valet). Scott fills pill capsules with Mountain Ash and swaps them out for Gerard Argent’s pills as he plans to thwart his plan of shapeshifting into a werewolf. This works later as when bitten by Derek Hale, Gerard starts to ooze black liquid from every orifice which is a sign of rejection of the bite. Although this does not kill him, it weakens him and he continues to spit and cough black liquid until Chris Argent gives him an antidote. Marie-Jean Argent, the first Argent Hunter, uses Mountain Ash wood to craft a pike in order to finally kill her brother, The beast of Gévaudan/ La Bête du Gévaudan, who could not be killed with any other earthly weapon. Another example of Mountain Ash used as a weapon is when fighting the Anuk-Ite, Scott and his pack realise that the Anuk-Ite is still a supernatural creature and therefore will be affected by Mountain Ash. Mountain Ash is thrown at the Anuk-Ite in order to kill it in the last season of Teen Wolf.

N[edit]

=Nemeton[edit]

A Nemeton is a large tree or grove that is sacred to the druids and it is said that if one was cut down it would bring all sorts of strife and chaos to the neighbouring village. Scott, Stiles and Allison enter their subconscious to find the Nemeton and save their parents in season 3 and acted as surrogate sacrifices in place of their parents. This gave the Nemeton power which it had not known in a long time and it then became a beacon that would attract supernatural creatures like Deputy Parrish the hellhound. The Nogistsune was set free as a result of the events in season 3 as it was buried in the Benetton by Noshiko Yukimura many centuries before. The Nemeton also helped Jennifer Blake stay alive long enough for The Beacon Hills Sheriff Department to find her after she was almost killed by Kali. This was possible as the Nemetom had received a virgin sacrifice when Derek Hale unknowingly killed Paige on its roots. There are many Nemeta around the world as shown in a hunters map in season 6 and they are located in Greenland, Zhengzhou in China, Logashkino in Siberia, Brasília in Brazil, Northern Africa and Toulouse in France.

Nogitsune[edit]

O[edit]

Oni[edit]

The Oni are shadowy samurai who serve the Kitsune. Their purpose is to hunt and slay any rogue Nogitsune. The Oni draw their power from magical fireflies within their chests and manifest through shadows and smoke. If the firefly is crushed or if the Oni is injured with a silver weapon, the Oni is vanquished. If the Kitsune which the Oni serve sacrifices their tail-swords, the Oni will gradually grow physically stronger and more aggressive. Oni are silent as they are creatures of pure shadow and absolute darkness and are thus invulnerable to any earthly weapons or injury.

Abilities[edit]

  • Invulnerability: While not indestructible, the Oni are effectively invulnerable in that no earthly weapon short of pure silver or the destruction of their firefly core can destroy them. Chris Argent shot an Oni directly in the face and kept the shattered pieces of its mask while the Oni himself was unfazed. It is unknown exactly what amount of injury or trauma is necessary to destroy an Oni's physical form other than the destruction of their firefly core or silver arrows to the chest as they can easily withstand swords as well as gunfire and remain unfazed. Increasing their strength heightens durability.
  • Supernatural Strength: The average Oni possess strength sufficient to overpower an un-metamorphosed Beta werewolf. Their strength is connected to the Kitsune which they serve; the more tail-swords the Kitsune sacrifice, the physically stronger and more aggressive the Oni will become. In this regard, their strength is still limited. After having received the full strength of their Kitsune master, the Oni are powerful enough to kill a metamorphosed Omega werewolf as well as former Alphas. Their strength is in numbers, and only in numbers can they stand against the combined might of a metamorphosed True Alpha werewolf and Thunder Kitsune warrior.
  • Soul Searching: The Oni possess the ability to see into the essence of those within their presence by looking into their eyes. They utilize this powerful ability to hunt for possessing spirits or malicious spiritual beings such as the Nogitsune to determine if the vessel is possessed by the force they are searching for. This power affects both humans as well as werewolves and other shapeshifters; including Kitsune. If an individual is only possessed by its native essence - its self, or soul - the Oni supernaturally mark the vessel behind the ear with a symbol reminiscent of the number "5" which represents self.
  • Teleportation:

P[edit]

Packs[edit]

A pack is a group of werewolves that stay together, packs are normally made of an Alpha and a few Betas. As shown in season three of Teen Wolf there was a pack of Alphas all of which had to kill their Betas and their Emissaries to be a part of Deucalion's pack. Within the Teen Wolf universe there are Scott's Pack (active), Deucalion's Pack (inactive), Derek's Pack (inactive), Peter's Pack (inactive), Theo's Pack (inactive), and Satomi's Pack (active).

Q[edit]

R[edit]

Ravens[edit]

Ravens, like foxes, are traditional tricksters. Season 5 introduced ravens as a motif starting from the very first shot of "Creatures of the Night", when a raven lands on the gate of Eichen House. They appear again during the death of Belasko, flying out of his body like the Nogitsune once flew out of Stiles's body. In "Parasomnia", Tracy vomits a raven feather along with black ooze and Parrish finds her roof full of dead ravens, just where she'd imagined one trying to get into her skylight.

It is unclear at this time what ravens signify.

S[edit]

Shapeshifting[edit]

They usually appear in human form and can shift to varying degrees into a bipedal wolflike creature with increased body hair, fangs and glowing eyes. Jeff Davis has said there's a progression in the werewolf's metamorphosis.

The most commonly seen werewolf metamorphosis is a near-human shape that includes eye colour change, claws, elongated fangs, a heightened brow, an alteration of facial hair including sideburns on their cheeks and a lengthening, sharpening of the ears.

When he was an Alpha, Peter Hale could shapeshift into a large, grotesque wolf-beast that could stand upright, but ran on all fours. Deucalion, the Alpha pack leader, could shapeshift into a Wolf-Man with dark blue-gray skin and with more demonic humanoid than wolflike features.

Talia, Laura and Derek Hale could shapeshift into normal looking wolves. This level of shapeshifting is rare amongst werewolves.

During Season 4, Scott began to undergo small changes to his werewolf metamorphosis: first, his fangs became larger; then he gained more fangs along his bottom row of teeth, resulting in his upper fangs taking on a bisected appearance to make room for the lower fangs. Second, his claws became slightly longer and more curved, resembling the claws of Deucalion. The most shocking changes came near the end of Season 4, during a battle with a group of werewolf hunters. During the battle, Scott demonstrated an even greater endurance and stamina than any Alpha's previously seen, taking several gunshots to his body, seemingly, without pain. Then, as he began to violently attack one of the hunters, his werewolf form began to metamorphose, taking on an appearance that almost resembled the classic Wolf Man's shape, except Scott's facial hair remained the same as his normal werewolf shape, the whites of his eyes became pure black, and his facial features became pronounced to the point of his entire nose and mouth resembling the muzzle of a canine. However, when Scott saw the look of fear on the face of the hunter he was attacking, he hesitated from killing the hunter, causing the metamorphosis to revert to his normal werewolf form.

Sluagh[edit]

Spirals[edit]

A Spiral was a vendetta sign, which is a sign for revenge. On the sign for werewolves which is drawn out of three spirals connected to each other. They mean Alpha, Beta and Omega. In season 4 Derek taught (well... he tried to) Liam how to control his werewolf powers by saying Alpha, Beta and Omega slowly and it should calm him down. Derek gave him the medallion with the sign on it when he told him to say Alpha, Beta and Omega. The Hales taught their children to control themselves like this.

T[edit]

Telluric Currents[edit]

The Telluric Currents are electromagnetic currents running through the earth that are affected by lunar phases.

Danny's research project for Mr. Harris was on telluric currents, but Mr. Harris told him that it bordered on pseudoscience and was not a suitable subject. In "Currents", the pack takes Chris Argent's map and combines it with Danny's map of the telluric currents. The bodies are taken and sacrificed on intersecting points on the map.

Danny has marked the currents by color:

  • Blue line: runs East and then South. It starts at the Beacon Hills Animal Clinic where it crosses Orange 2. This crosses Orange 3 at Beacon Hills First National.
  • Red line: connects the bottom of Orange 1 to the river on the southern side of town.
  • Green line: runs roughly parallel to Orange 3, but crosses over the river. It intersects with the Blue Line south of the Northern Bridge.

The Wild Hunt[edit]

The Wild Hunt is a European folk myth involving a ghostly or supernatural group of huntsmen passing in wild pursuit. The hunters may be either elves or fairies or the dead,[1] and the leader of the hunt is often a named figure associated with Woden[2] (or other reflections of the same god, such as Alemannic Wuodan in Wuotis Heer ("Wuodan's Army") of Central Switzerland, Swabia etc.), but may variously be a historical or legendary figure like Theodoric the Great, the Danish king Valdemar Atterdag, the Welsh psychopomp Gwyn ap Nudd, biblical figures such as Herod, Cain, Gabriel or the Devil, or an unidentified lost soul or spirit that is either male or female.

Lydia Martin first found a book describing the mythical Ghost Riders in "Status Asthmaticus":

"Woden’s Hunt, also known as the Wild Ride or Wild Hunt. A myth of devilish riders in the sky accompanied by black dogs, spectral beasts whose eyes glowed with fire...
A Bearer of Death and Guardian of the Supernatural, the black dog is also known by its more common name, the Hellhound."

They tend to take and erase people who have seen them. The process can be instant, as in the case of the couple whose son was left behind or gradual such as when the memory of Stiles Stilinski seemed to disappear for different people at different times. The Ghost Riders take people by shooting them. They also use whips and ropes to grab and erase their victims. The whip carries a supernatural toxin that can kill if the victim is struck but not taken by the riders. Victims disappear in a puff of green smoke. Riders deliver those captured to what appears to be a train station that only the riders can safely enter and exit. In the one case we know of, the riders left behind a Banshee (Lenore) despite her ability to see them. Lydia speculates that this may be because the Wild Hunt is connected to the old Irish legend of the Morrígan, a mythical Irish figure that Lydia says was a Banshee. Capturing is possible. Mason, Corey, and Scott constructed a special cage that shielded it from electric currents to prevent the Rider from leaving once he entered the cage. They then surrounded it with Mountain Ash as a precaution. Killing a Rider was not deemed possible until Garrett Douglas killed "The Outlaw" but due to the fact that he was infused with their power. Later, Liam Dunbar and Theo Raeken battle Riders and were able to kill a few with a bone saw and their own guns.

Wendigo[edit]

A wendigo is a cannibalistic shapeshifter, in Native American lore it was believed that if someone were to eat the flesh of a human they were punished by being turned into a cannibal that craved it constantly. Derek states that Beacon Hills didn't have any for a long time and that this wendigo family must have been very well-hidden.

Known Wendigos:

  • David Walcott
  • Christina Walcott
  • Michael Walcott
  • Sean Walcott
  • Patrick Clarke

Abilities[edit]

  • Enhanced Strength: A single wendigo is able to withstand the strength of an Alpha, as shown when Sean was fighting Scott on the Beacon Hills Hospital roof.

Werewolf[edit]

Werewolves are a species of shapeshifter and are the primary protagonists within the Teen Wolf universe as well as the occasional antagonists. Generally, werewolves are a prominent species of shifters spiritually descended from the Ancient Greek cannibal Lycaon and his sons after they had shapeshifted into wolves by the god Zeus. They draw their power from the full moon and possess both the intelligence of men as well as the senses and strength of a wolf combined with the power and vitality afforded by Lycaon's curse or the power of rainwater drunken from the paw print of a wolf in earth.

Known Werewolves[edit]

  • Peter Hale
  • Derek Hale
  • Scott McCall
  • Jackson Whittemore
  • Isaac Lahey
  • Marco
  • Cora Hale
  • Ethan Steiner
  • Kincaid
  • Liam Dunbar

  • Satomi Ito

Characteristics[edit]

A werewolf can be born to werewolf parents through genetic lycanthropy, or former humans metamorphosed into new werewolves by an Alpha's bite. Another confirmed method is drinking rain water from the paw print of a wolf (Sebastien Valet). Werewolves live in packs, following an Alpha, not only because of strength in numbers, but because they become more powerful, more mature, and "better in every way". A pack can also be composed only of Alphas. Werewolves are bound to the full moon, it makes them want to shapeshift and shapeshift more easily. A werewolf's power is at its peak during the full moon. Newly bitten werewolves are at the mercy of the full moon, and under its sway, they can easily lose control and their homicidal tendencies increase. Born werewolves generally have an easier time controlling themselves simply because it is part of their nature. Werewolves lose all their power during the lunar eclipse.

Abilities[edit]

  • Canine Senses: Werewolves can see, hear and smell far more effectively than humans. Their sense of smell allows a werewolf to track people similar to a bloodhound. Derek Hale explains that a werewolf can pick up chemo signals, chemical signals that give off emotion, to learn what a person's emotional state is.
  • Accelerated Healing: Werewolves possess considerable superficial regenerative abilities. Wounds from most objects, even bullets, may heal in seconds without causing too much discomfort. This ability is limited as they cannot regrow severed appendages or lost bones; though they can reattach them. Broken bones heal within minutes or hours depending on damage. Pain triggers and strengthens the healing process. Werewolves are also impervious to diseases and biological handicaps; any disease, even cancer, will disappear upon being bitten, as will any crippling injury or physical disability. Even if a werewolf is impaired in human form, their faculties will temporarily return while in wolf form.
  • Bestial Strength: Werewolves possess superior strength in comparison to humans. Even in human form, werewolves possess sufficient strength to overpower grown men with effort. Strength increases through shapeshifting, sufficient to lift objects several times their size and weight and strike with enough force to kill a man. Strength is related to anger; werewolves suffering from emotional trauma or mental disorders which cause increased rage possess more potent strength than others. Alphas and Betas draw their strength from the pack; Omegas are generally the weakest as they have neither an Alpha nor a pack. Alphas are the strongest; sufficient to overturn excavators easily.
  • Wolflike Mobility: Werewolves are faster and more agile than humans; able to cover several yards in mere minutes as well as perform difficult parkour feats with ease. Their reflexes are similarly heightened. Werewolves can appear and disappear within seconds with the power of their speed. Werewolves are fastest while in their shapeshifted form; able to catch up even to a speeding car and run several dozen miles per hour with great force and vigorous stamina. Werewolves can train and practice to further improve their speed; thus Pack werewolves are fastest while Omegas are slowest and thus easy prey to trained hunters or other supernatural creatures.
  • Pain Transference: Werewolves can absorb and alleviate pain from others. In exceptional instances, this talent can allow a werewolf to fully heal an individual.
  • Memory Transference: Werewolves can transfer memories with others by inserting their claws into another's neck. This ability can establish mind-to-mind communication and, with skill, allow for mind manipulation or memory erasure.
  • Eye Color: Werewolves eyes have the ability to glow. The color they glow depends on certain things.
    • Red - Alpha wolves.
    • Yellow - Regular Beta or Omega werewolves.
    • Blue - A Werewolf that has taken an innocent life; but the blue eyes do not represent the situation, for example, Derek Hale has blue-colored eyes, due to the fact that he killed his girlfriend, Paige, however, it was a mercy kill.

Types of Werewolves[edit]

There are three known types of werewolves in the Teen Wolf mythology.

  • Omega Werewolf: an Omega Werewolf is the "lone wolf"; living without a pack and without an Alpha. They have all the werewolf abilities mentioned above but are considered weaker than others because they are not part of a pack. Werewolves can become Omegas by choice or be forced out of a pack by the Alpha werewolf or by circumstance.
  • Beta Werewolf: Beta Werewolves are members of a pack and, because of this association, they are stronger, more mature than Omega Werewolves.
  • Alpha Werewolf: Alphas are the strongest and most aggressive of the werewolf breed; described as apex predators. They are recognized by their red eyes; although an Alpha's eyes may differ from individual to individual depending on their respective shapeshifting abilities. Alphas are the only werewolves with the power of "the Bite"; the ability to metamorphose a human into a werewolf through bites. Alphas serve as leaders of packs; drawing strength from their Betas and vice versa. A Beta or Omega Werewolf can become an Alpha Werewolf by killing their existing Alpha or by inheriting the power when their previous Alpha dies.
    • Beast Alpha: A Beast Alpha is regarded as one of the most terrifying Alphas alongside the Demon Wolf. A Beast Alpha is an Alpha who has completely given in to their animalistic instincts; rage, hunger, lust and aggression. Within their metamorphosed state, Beast Alphas are a monstrous amalgamation between man and wolf; around 8 or 9 feet tall, bipedal yet able to run on all fours. Their metamorphosis is violent and seemingly out of their control when angered. Those werewolves who become Beast Alphas are generally psychotic and power-hungry individuals; Peter Hale is the only example of such a Beast Alpha.
    • Wolf Alpha: A Wolf Alpha is regarded as a rare and precious Alpha and are held in exceptionally high regard as they embody what is believed to be the very essence of the werewolf's lupine nature due to their power to shapeshift into true wolves. Wolf Alphas are created from werewolves who possess great willpower and sense of purpose as well as enough compassion and humanity to keep themselves from becoming Beast Alphas. Wolf Alphas are regarded as evolved werewolves and retain their power to shapeshift into wolves even after losing their Alpha status. Talia and Derek Hale are the only evolved werewolves seen.
    • Demon Wolf Alpha: A Demon Wolf is similarly rare as a Wolf Alpha. However, similar to the Beast Alpha, a Demon Wolf Alpha is dominated by its animalistic instincts. The only known Demon Wolf Alpha, Deucalion, was a True Alpha before being blinded by Gerard Argent and subsequently slaughtering his own Pack out of rage and lust for power, taking their wolf essence into himself and discovering he could increase his power by doing so. This metamorphosed him into a demonic Alpha with vivid glowing eyes and a furrowed brow along with a much more intimidating metamorphosed state while still maintaining a humanoid shape.
    • True Alpha: A Beta werewolf can become an Alpha Werewolf through strength of character or sheer force of will alone. These are called "True Alpha Werewolves" and are very rare. Only a Beta Werewolf of a True Alpha Werewolf's own making can take the power of his/her True Alpha sire.

Special Abilities[edit]

  • An Alpha Werewolf's Bite can metamorphose a human into a werewolf. The bite usually only has two outcomes - metamorphosis or death although there are exceptions (Lydia Martin).
    • A scratch from an Alpha Werewolf, if it goes deep enough, can sometimes be metamorphic (Kate Argent).
  • Alpha Werewolves have limited telepathy and mental control over the Beta werewolves that they create and some other shapeshifters (Werecoyote).
  • Bites, scratches and other wounds inflicted by an Alpha Werewolf will not heal as quickly as other injuries.
  • Alpha Werewolves have additional vision capabilities over other werewolves. They are able to see infrared.
  • Alpha Werewolves can heal the extremely ill with their pain transference ability but they give up part of the "spark" that makes them an Alpha Werewolf. This can result in loss of an Alpha status.
  • Alpha Werewolves can, by killing their own Beta werewolves, become stronger.

Werejaguar[edit]

Werejaguars, also known as the Nagual, are a species of shapeshifters that were introduced during Season 4 of MTV's Teen Wolf. The lore behind the werejaguar is based on the Aztec legend of Tezcatlipoca, a god who has a strong connection to jaguars. Kate Argent is the only true Werejaguar seen to date. Hayden Romero was a part-werejaguar Chimera prior to being bitten and metamorphosed into a Werewolf by Scott McCall, but demonstrated very few werejaguar abilities.

Due to there only being one true werejaguar in the series, there is very little known information about the species' mythology. The most notable characteristic of the werejaguar is their connection to the Berserker species; Kate Argent has the ability to both control Berserkers and create them, and during Hayden's brief time as a part-werejaguar Chimera, she was able to sense the location and current status of Noah Patrick, a part-Berserker Chimera. Because of these abilities, there is clearly some kind of established connection between werejaguars and Berserkers.

So far in the series, the only werejaguars who have appeared had shapeshifted been or made, with Kate Argent being deeply scratched by then-Alpha werewolf Peter Hale, and with Hayden Romero being scientifically metamorphosed into a part-werejaguar Chimera by the Dread Doctors. If born werejaguars exist, they have yet to be introduced in the series, though it was implied by Braeden that there are more werejaguars in Mexico in the area around La Iglesia, a church built over the ruins of an Aztec temple to Tezcatlipoca, who is said to be the werejaguar god. It is also unknown if werejaguars can metamorphose humans into more of their kind, due in part to the mystery as to whether they have a hierarchy within their species like werewolves do, with Alphas being the only ones who can metamorphose humans into werewolves or other shapeshifters through a bite or scratch.

Known Werejaguars:Kate Argent and Hayden Romero-Chimera.

Abilities[edit]

Accelerated Healing: Like their fellow werecreatures, Werewolves and Werecoyotes, werejaguars have immensely accelerated cellular regeneration, allowing them to heal from mild to moderate wounds within moments. Werejaguars' healing seems to be even more rapid than the average shapeshifter, as Kate Argent has not only shown that she can be shot multiple times without being slowed down, but her healing ability was so advanced that it actually resurrected her after she was killed by Peter Hale; he clawed her so deeply when ripping out her throat that she had metamorphosed into a werejaguar, and her healing ability, enhanced by the impending full moon, brought Kate back to life so she could complete her metamorphosis. Additionally, this enhanced healing ability gives werejaguars an immunity to human illnesses and conditions, and prevents them from becoming drunk on alcohol or high on drugs due to their bodies healing the damage too quickly for the effects to be felt.

Longevity: Because of a werejaguar's enhanced healing ability that replaces aging and damaged cells at a constant rate, they, along with their fellow shapeshifters, possess an incredibly expanded lifespan. It is unknown how old a werejaguar can live to be, but the oldest known werecreature, the Alpha werewolf Satomi Ito, is 110+ years old while maintaining the appearance of a woman in her mid-late 50s to early 60s, indicating that a werecreature could possibly live decades longer than even that. This also allows a werejaguar and their fellow animal shapeshifters to maintain their youthful appearance for a longer period of time.

Shapeshifting: Werejaguars by definition are shapeshifters, allowing them to shapeshift their physical features into thise that resemble their jaguar counterparts. When a werejaguar shifts, their eyes glow green, their teeth and fingernails extend into fangs and claws, and their skin shifts from its usual shade to a dark bluish-purple with darker spots. This metamorphosis can be a conscious or unconscious act. While a werejaguar can shift on command, they can also involuntarily shift as well if they do not have control over their metamorphoses, especially during periods of extreme emotions such as anger or fear, or during a full moon. Animal Instincts: As an animalistic shapeshifter, werejaguars possess the same animal instincts as their jaguar counterparts, giving then intuitive instincts as to how a real jaguar would behave. Since jaguars are predators, werejaguars can presumably assert dominance over lesser creatures such as dogs, cats, and deer, just like werewolves and werecoyotes, and share a jaguar's hunting, predatory and solitary instincts.

Magic/Mysticism: The only known werejaguar, Kate Argent, demonstrated the ability to perform certain magical or mystical rituals to defy the laws of the human world. Her first ritual was one involving wolfsbane that temporarily de-aged Derek Hale from being an adult man in his mid-20s to his 16-year-old self. His de-aged form only possessed the knowledge, memory and skills of his younger self, so he didn't remember any of his packmates, could not control himself on full moons, didn't remember that the Hale House Fire had happened, and thus also didn't remember that it was Kate who caused the fire. It was later revealed that Kate had performed this ritual to turn Derek back to an age where he still trusted her so she could manipulate him into giving her the Triskelion medallion, which she believed to be a truly mystical talisman that could give her control over her werejaguar metamorphoses. The second ritual she performed also involved wolfsbane and a special room in La Iglesia, where she used a bear skull to metamorphose Scott McCall into a Berserker. Both rituals required Kate to transport her victims to the Temple of Tezcatlipoca. It is unknown if this is a power that all werejaguars possess.

Werecoyote[edit]

Like all canine werecreatures, when a werecoyote follows an Alpha, and joins his pack, they receive symbiotic maturity and power by being a packmate. They become more accomplished in using their supernatural abilities, their powers amplifying and their self-control and prowess improving. Werecoyotes, like their werewolf cousins, feel a strong camaraderie and kinship towards their own. In Season 5, Malia was the first in the pack to put trust in newcomer Theo Raeken who put himself out as a werewolf wishing to gain entry into the pack. Though she was none the wiser, this was due to Theo's werecoyote part gravitating her towards him. Theo also admitted to Malia he'd felt regret when he sold her out to Corrine, despite his being a sociopath and had no trouble betraying and manipulating the rest of Scott's pack and allies. This admission on his part indicates Theo felt artificial remorse for betraying a fellow werecoyote.

Known Werecoyotes: Malia Tate, Corrine, Edgar and Theo-Chimera.

Abilities[edit]

Metamorphosis: The werecoyote's metamorphosis consists of two shapes: a full coyote shape and the commonly seen near-human shape. A Werecoyote is able to shapeshift into a full coyote form. This ability is naturally latent for a coyote, in contrast to its werewolf cousin which has to evolve in order to achieve the capability to shapeshift into a full animal shape.

Accelerated Healing: Werecoyotes possess extraordinarily enhanced healing factors that allow them to heal from most mild to moderate wounds within moments. Throughout the series, Werecoyotes have been shown to heal from gunshots; stab wounds through the chest, abdomen, and extremities; and broken arms, legs, and spines. They are also immune to all human illnesses and conditions such as colds, cancer, epilepsy, asthma, etc., and cannot get high on drugs or drunk on alcohol because they heal the damage caused by the toxins too quickly. The only known substances that Werecoyotes are not immune to are Wolfsbane and the modified canine distemper virus that was specifically designed to kill Werewolves and Werecoyotes. They are also vulnerable to the paralytic effects of Kanima venom, though they will recover from their paralysis from it much faster than a regular human would.

Longevity: Because a Werecoyote's rapid cellular regeneration prevents them from contracting any human illnesses or conditions while also replacing aging cells at a constant rate, werecoyotes have enhanced longevity and a decelerated rate of aging, allowing them to live much longer and healthier than normal humans. It is unknown what the average life expectancy of a werecreature is, but the oldest known werecreature is an Alpha Werewolf named Satomi Ito, who is over 110 years old; this indicates that Werecoyotes and their Werewolf cousins have the potential to live well into their 100s as long as they are not killed.
