N991AU is an Airbus A321-200 that is currently operating with American Airlines. The aircraft was built in 2016 at under the serial number of 7131, and was delivered on September 30, 2016,[1] but has been involved in three incidents, the first being a collision, the second being a case of an "ambien zombie", and the third from a bird strike.

American Airlines Flight 1162

On June 30, 2017, Flight 1162 was taxiing down the taxiway at O'Hare International Airport when its left winglet collided American Eagle Flight 3047, a Bombardier CRJ-200, registered N862AS, operating with SkyWest Airlines.[1][2] One passenger claimed that the collision nearly knocked the CRJ-200 onto its side.[2] Both aircraft were repaired and returned to service.

American Airlines Flight 1802

On September 6, 2021, Flight 1802 took off from Los Angeles International Airport without incident, carrying 162 passengers and six crew members onboard.[3][4][5][6] At approximately 12:48 p.m., while reaching Salt Lake City, Utah, the flight experienced disturbance, when a 61-year-old man from Las Vegas, Nevada, and was dubbed under the alias "Kevin" by Dennis Busch,[7] got up from his seat and yelled at the flight attendants demanding he would be let off the plane during the flight, as he thought it had landed, when it was still in the process of landing, "Kevin" is demanded to sit down, and he yells out "Joe Biden, really?".[8][9][10]

"Kevin" later started swearing at the flight attendants, flipping them off, shouting "God bless America",[8][11][12][13] and then started growling, showing his teeth and chewing on his mask.[4][9][12][13]

The flight landed safely at Salt Lake City International Airport, and once the plane arrived at the gates, the police arrived and escorted "Kevin" off the flight and placed under arrest.[14][15] "Kevin" was reported for disruptive behavior, including shouting, growling, and refusing to remain seated. Passengers on the flight reported feeling uneasy due to his actions. It was also reported that the 61-year-old man was drunk during the flight. "Kevin" was cited for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.[16][15][17] The 61-year-old was sentenced to 90 days in jail and given a $750 fine ($Error when using {{Inflation}}: |index=USD (parameter 1) not a recognized index. in 2026).

Dennis Busch, who was also on Flight 1802 at the time of the incident, filmed footage of the way "Kevin" was behaving, he would post the footage to Facebook,[18][19] and this footage was later shared on TikTok on September 8, 2021.[20]

American Airlines Flight 1654

On June 16, 2025, Flight 1654 was making an approach to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, landing on Runway 17C, when the aircraft struck a bird while on approach to the runway. The aircraft was repaired and returned to service.
