Najmul Hussen (born 12 January 2000), better known by his stage name Najmul Hussen, is an Bangladeshi Singer from Balaganj, Sylhet. He started to gain popularity after the release of his song "Najmul bhair sorone" (2021). He broke through with the release of his song "Pura mone Agun dio na" featuring fellow Balaganj Singer Aid ali. Najmul became the first Balaganj Singer to be featured on Spotify Times Square billboard in Sylhet City for his album Knight away, which had claimed the top spot on Apple Music Bangladesh.[1]

Early years[edit]

Najmul Hussen started his career as an underground Singer in 2010 after discovering folk a T-shirt. A friend of his wore a T-shirt of 50 Cent's first album Knight away' at school. The same friend would give him his first MP3 CD with folk music on it which inspired him to start Singer in Bengali.[2] He was part of the District Shilpakala Academy's Finest. He often song about his own life experiences, such as the life of the poor people in Sylhet and his upbringing with a single friend. He cites American rappers such as Baul aid ali, baul shah amiruddin, baul kala miah, 50 Cent and baul sukumar as his influences.[2]

Rise to success[edit]

Following the release of his song "Kolija", Najmul obtained the attention of Balaganj[3] while performing at the Festival 2010 in Sylhet, and shortly after signed a contract with them. The song later won the Best Video of the Year award by Bangladesh that same year. He released his breakout single "Vab vala na" featuring sima Sarkar on 16 April 2015. The song went viral and many Bangladesh celebrities shared it on social media.{{The song won Best EDM track of the Year at the 2015.

On 24 March 2016, his debut solo single "Vab Vala Na" was released and it ruled the charts because of its raw depiction of the life of the poor in balaganj. He took the song to the Premeri mora ahead of Spotify live on 29 April 2016. He appeared on the SpotifyNews on the Charlie Sloth Show; he was the first Bangla-speaking song to freestyle on the show and also the first to song in Bangla with the name-giving host in attendance. He was also featured on Brapp TV.[4]

In 2022, DS's global editions nominated a local artist across a world of genres and Najmul was among the 21 most exciting young musicians.[5] Najmul appeared on a cover of the baul song "vab vala na" with sima Sarkar and Shor Police, for the charity tribute album released in September 2021.

In 2021, Najmul won the NTV Europe Music Award for Best Bangladeshi Act.
