NEDOCS
The National Emergency Department Overcrowding Scale, or NEDOCS, is a system used to objectively measure the severity of overcrowding in emergency departments. The NEDOCS score is calculated based on multiple factors, including patient volume, available, beds, and wait times. An emergency department's NEDOCS score can be used to determine if and when the department should begin to divert ambulances.

NEDOCS uses a specific formula to calculate overcrowding based on seven criteria: total number of ED patients, total number of staffed ED beds, total number of ED admitted patients, total number of staffed inpatient beds, the most recent door-to-bed time (in hours), the longest admit time (in hours), and the total number of critical care ED patients.
