NESFAS
The North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS), aims to connect people to the pleasure of tasty, healthy and local food. It is working towards bringing together locals to promote and conserve local cuisines to promote agrobiodiversity. They are working as the regional reflection of Indigenous Partnership for Agrobiodiversity and Food Sovereignty (TIP) and Slow Food International.
Initiatives
- TATA – GHE – NESFAS 2021–2027
This initiative is funded by Tata Communications implemented in collaboration with the Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE). The main aim of the programme is to improve access to energy, health and carbon offset from the villages in Meghalaya.
- FAO- NESFAS 2021–2022
Focussed on implementation of the Indigenous Peoples' Biocentric Restoration Project and the Food Insecurity Experience Scale Unit.
- MBMA – NESFAS 2021–2023
Empowering Indigenous Communities through Agroecology Learning Circles (ALC) for resilient, integrated, & innovative natural resource management.
- TNC – NESFAS 2022
Catalyzing the updation of People's Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) in Meghalaya, North East India.
- REC – NESFAS 2018–2021
The aim of REC is to enhance Indigenous Food Systems to contribute to improved nutrition, food security, and sustainable livelihoods of close to 3000 households in 130 remote indigenous communities of North East.
- Elderly Safety Homes – 2020
A total of 70 elderly households were built for 79 elders across 8 villages/communities under this project.
- GIZ – NESFAS 2019
Enhancing Nutritional Diversity As A Means Of Supplementing The Mid-Day Meals Of Primary School Children Using Local Resources.
