NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd. (Hebrew: נת"ע) is an Israeli state-owned company responsible for the design and construction of a mass transit system for the Tel Aviv metropolis. Founded in 1996 for the purpose of providing appropriate solutions for the metropolis’ transit problems, NTA is in charge of designing and building three Light rail lines and three Metro lines in Israel's central district of Gush Dan.

History

The company was founded in May 1996, and its first assignment was the designing of two light rail lines, The red line and The Green Line. On January 2001, after the government's approval, NTA published a tender for the construction of the red line. On December 31, it was announced that the winning company is MTS group, and that the line is to open by 2010. After the 2008 financial crisis, it was revealed that MTS had financial problems and the Israeli government cancelled their winning bid and assigned the project to NTA.[1]

On July 2010 the government authorized a new seven lines network, and initial construction works of the red line began with the launching shafts for the TBM on September 2011. August 2015 marked the beginning of the construction of the line itself[2], and it was opened for public use on August 2023.[3]
