Background

Roadblock is a professional wrestling event established by WWE in 2016. The inaugural event was held in March that year and aired exclusively on the WWE Network with its name being in reference to its position on the "Road to WrestleMania".[1] In July 2016, WWE reintroduced the brand extension, where the main roster was divided between brands where wrestlers were exclusively assigned to perform. Roadblock was brought back that same year in December as a Raw-exclusive event under the title Roadblock: End of the Line. It aired on pay-per-view (PPV) and the WWE Network with its name being in reference to being WWE's final PPV of 2016.[2][3] After a six-year hiatus,[4] Roadblock was revived in 2022 for the developmental brand NXT as an annual television special episode of NXT, with its title being in reference to its position on the road to NXT's WrestleMania weekend event, Stand & Deliver.[5]

On February 3, 2026, Fightful reported that the 2026 NXT Roadblock television special had been listed on Madison Square Garden's official website. It is scheduled to take place on March 31 at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden, the same venue that hosted the previous year's Roadblock event.[6][7]

Storylines

The card will include matches that result from scripted storylines. Results will be predetermined by WWE's writers on the NXT brand,[8][9] while storylines will be produced on the weekly television program, NXT.[10][11]

On the March 10 episode of NXT, Interim General Manager Robert Stone announced that a tag team tournament would take place over the next few weeks, with the finals scheduled for NXT: Roadblock, with the winners of the tournament facing The Vanity Project (Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes) for the NXT Tag Team Championship at Stand & Deliver.[12] On the March 17 episode, Birthright (Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo and Uriah Connors) defeated Hank and Tank (Hank Walker and Tank Ledger) to advance to the final.[13] On the following week's episode, Raw's Los Americanos (Bravo Americano and Rayo Americano) defeated The Culling (Shawn Spears and Niko Vance) to face Birthright in the final.[14]

On the March 17 episode of NXT was Booker T Appreciation Night. Shortly after Vic Joseph gave Booker T an appreciation plaque, Keanu Carver interrupted Booker's speech, attacking everyone who tried to stop him. Carver stated that Booker did not deserve appreciation. When only Carver and Booker remained in the ring, Booker's former mentee on the first season of LFG, Jasper Troy, came out to successfully neutralize Carver, turning face in the process. WWE officials and security personnel forced Carver to go backstage.[13] On March 23, it was announced that Carver would face Troy at Roadblock.[15] The following night on NXT, several referees were hesitant on officiating the match. Josh Briggs, however, volunteered to be the special guest referee, which Interim NXT General Manager Robert Stone accepted.

At New Year's Evil on January 6, Jacy Jayne defeated Kendal Grey to retain the NXT Women's Championship after interference from her Fatal Influence stablemates, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. After the event, Grey set her sights on a rematch. On the March 24 episode of NXT, Grey and Wren Sinclair defeated Henley and Reid. After the match, Grey called out Jayne and challenged her to a rematch at Stand & Deliver. Lola Vice, however, appeared and stated she also wanted a rematch, having been defeated by Jayne at No Mercy. Interim NXT General Manager Robert Stone announced that Grey and Vice would face each other at Roadblock, where the winner would challenge Jayne for the title at Stand & Deliver.
