Na Jeona is an outstanding Bengali film song by Lata Mangeshkar. It was remade in Hindi as O Sajna in the 1960 film Parakh.[1][2]

Acclaim[edit]

In 1949, Lata Mangeshkar raised the Hindi film industry by a storm with the films like Andaz, Shaheed, Barsaat, Mahal. The next decade she made history. Becoming the leading singer, she gained sky-high popularity. She had already worked with Bengali music directors like Rai Chand Boral, Anil Biswas, Hemant Kumar, Sachin Dev Burman, Robin Chatterjee and Salil Chowdhury. They all were interested to introduce this singing prodigy to Bengali film industry. Nachiketa Ghosh had taken the initiative step. He made Lata sing for a 1956 film. It was a tagore song (also referred as Ravindra Sangeet). But it could not cast her magic on people. So, she dissuaded herself from singing Bengali songs. Moreover, she had less command over Bengali as she was a marathi. However, in 1959, Salil Chowdhury signed Lata to sing two Bengali songs- "Na Jeona" and "Jare Ude Jare Pakhi". Both of the songs went on to become alltime greatest hits. Salil had a great command over composing raga-based songs.
