Naaz Shaikh is an Indian actress and former model known for her role as Thooya in the Hindi-language drama film Songs of Forgotten Trees (2025).[1] The film premiered in the Orizzonti section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, marking Shaikh's international debut.[2]
Early life and education
Naaz Shaikh was born in Assam, India. She was raised in Dampur village and later pursued studies in fashion design before entering the entertainment industry.[3][4][5][6]
Career
Prior to acting, Shaikh worked as a fashion model in Bengaluru and participated in numerous fashion events, including Bangalore Fashion Week. She also appeared in advertising campaigns for various commercial brands.[4]
In 2022, she relocated to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. She subsequently worked in theatre productions and appeared in television and advertising projects.[4]
Shaikh gained wider recognition after portraying Thooya in Songs of Forgotten Trees, directed by Anuparna Roy. The film was selected for the Orizzonti competition section at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.[2][7]
Her performance in the film received coverage from international film publications during the festival's run.[8]
