Nabd App
NABD App Founded in 2013, NABD is an Arabic News Aggregator company based in Dubai, with offices in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan. It aggregates Arabic content from 1,500 publishers, including local publishers in MENA and international channels such as CNN, BBC and Euronews.[1] As of November 2021, the company claims its platform has reached over 25 million users per month.
Nabd is considered to be a major referral source for publishers, exceeding social media networks in terms of traffic source for some key publishers in MENA [2].
The app is currently available for iPhone, iPad, Android, Huawei devices and on the web via the Nabd.com portal [3]. Through Nabd’s community, users engage, comment, and share articles inside the app, as well as partake in regular polls that are posted by the platform. The platform doesn’t require any subscription and it is completely free of charge for both users and publishers.
History
Started as a personalized news aggregator app [4] and later expanded to add more content verticals such as live football scores, live streaming channels, weather forecast, and financial markets data [5].
First launched on iOS in 2012 and then on Android and Tablet in 2013. In 2017, Nabd launched in the Huawei App Gallery.
In 2018, launched a dedicated sports section inside the app that includes live scores and content on local and international sporting teams, with the football section being of great popularity.
In 2019, became available on the web via nabd.com. Up until then, Nabd was a mobile app only. The Nabd.com portal curates the most engaged Arabic stories from the App in every category (such as news, sports, economy, travel, tech, and many more), in addition to the most-engaged local stories for most of the Middle Eastern countries [6].
In 2019, launched live streaming services inside the app. This new feature enables Nabd users to access and watch live Arabic TV channels directly through the app. The Live Arabic channels inside Nabd include 34 live, regional and international channels such as CNBC Arabia, Euronews, BBC Arabic, RT Arabic and Alarabiya.
In 2019, The World Economic Forum and the Bahrain Economic Development Board selected the app as part of the 100 Arab start-ups that are shaping the Fourth Industrial Revolution [7].
In 2020, Samsung selected Nabd as the Arabic news provider for its smartphones in MENA. Through this partnership Nabd was able to provide personalized Arabic news for Samsung Smartphone users in the Middle East and North Africa region via Samsung Daily and Samsung Internet.
In the same year of 2020, Huawei partnered with Nabd, whereby Nabd provided personalized Arabic content for Huawei smartphone users in the MENA region via Huawei Assistant and Huawei browsers. The partnership allowed the Nabd Newsfeed to be instantly available on all Huawei handsets in MENA [8].
In June of 2020, Nabd launched a new video feed section within the app. The dedicated video feed caters to the user’s preference for video content. The company claims that the time spent after introducing the new video section has doubled [9].
In 2021, Nabd launched a financial markets section that includes live financial market data from regional and international markets [10]
Features and Customization
The user interface of Nabd’s application includes several features that allow users to customize the content and the categories that they are interested in. Once the Nabd feed has been set and the users have selected their individual sources of preference that they want to follow, they then get access to several features such as the most read and shared articles, weather updates, breaking news stories and live sports scores. They can also be part of the Nabd community and engage with the content by commenting on articles.
Nabd’s publishers can view statistics on their number of followers and their audience demographic through a dedicated dashboard that is offered by Nabd. Through this dashboard, publishers can edit their profile, and control the distribution of their content on Nabd.
