Nadav Ahituv

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Nadav Ahituv is a Professor in the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences and the Director for the Institute for Human Genetics at the University of California, San Francisco (USCF).[1][2][3] He also leads the Ahituv Lab at UCSF.[1][4]

Early Life and Education

He received his PhD in human genetics from Tel-Aviv University, where he worked on hereditary hearing loss.[3][2]

Research

The Ahituv Lab, under the leadership of Nadav Ahituv, investigates gene regulatory elements and their relationship to human diversity and disease.[4] The lab is focused on identifying gene regulatory elements and linking nucleotide variation within them to various phenotypes, including morphological differences between species, drug response, and human disease.[5] The lab has co-developed massively parallel reporter assays (MPRAs) that allow for high-throughput functional characterization of gene regulatory elements.[6] It also pioneered cis-regulation therapy (CRT) for genetic diseases that are caused due to low gene dosage and adipose manipulation transplantation (AMT) that engineers fat cells and implants them for therapeutic benefits.[7][8]

Awards and Honors

  • PhD with distinction from Tel-Aviv University in 2002.[1][2]
  • ASCPT Leon I. Goldberg young investigator award from The American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics in 2014.[9][1]
