Introduction
Nairisha Batada[1] (/nai-ri-sha/ /ba-ta-da/) is an on-air personality, actress, model, singer, songwriter and producer from Toronto, Canada.
She is known for her work as the Entertainment Host of the Canadian Screen Award nominated urban music series VMix[2] on OMNI Television and a reporter on Bollywood Boulevard.[3] She later went on to host the digital pop-culture network BestFan TV as well as the red-carpet correspondent at the Toronto International Film Festival for Red Carpet Diary TV and Toronto Men's and Women's Fashion Week[4].
In 2017 she was nominated as the Rising Reporter of the Year at the Notable Awards
In 2018 Nairisha made her film debut as a leading lady in Chosen Night[5], Exed Out[6] and The Shakes[7] as well as a leading lady in Cineplex's new Scene Gold commercial.[8]
Philanthropy
During the age of 16, Nairisha made various television appearances to advocate for the End to Global Poverty Foundation[9] alongside her best friend Rahim Mawani to raise funds for the Italian Earthquake relief initiative.[10] Nairisha has played an active role as a Communication Liaison for the United Nations Women's National Committee of Canada during her university career while also being involved in multiple charity initiatives including the Heart and Stroke Foundation after her grandfather and grandmother both passed away due to heart attacks. Nairisha is also a huge advocate for mental health initiatives and worked with NVSN clothing for the Nature vs Nurture campaign. [11]
Early Life
Nairisha was born on August 29, 1992 in Mumbai, India. Her father is a small business owner and her mother is a homemaker. Her grandfather was an exotic ivory and snake skin dealer and stuntmen in Bollywood and her grandmother was a dancer and homemaker.
She attended an all girls private catholic school, St Agnes High School in Mumbai where she was in various school plays and learned traditional dance such as kathak and bharatnatyam. After which she came to Canada at the age of 7 and attended George Webster Elementary School.
Her parents moved around quite often due to the family business and as a result she attended various different schools across the Greater Toronto Area including Valley Park Middle School, Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute, James S Bell Junior Middle School.
In grade 6 her parents decided to move to Atlanta, Georgia where Nairisha studied at Shamrock Collegiate Institute where she fell in love with playing basketball. She returned to Canada for grade 7 and attended Etobicoke Collegiate Institute as well as Rick Hansen Secondary School where she was enrolled in a Broadcasting Television class.
In grade 11, she was accepted to the Cyber Arts program at Lakeshore Collegiate Institute[12], however her parents decided to move back to India, where she attended Christ Church School one of the top schools in Mumbai where she travelled across India playing basketball for the female varsity team. She was also involved in the debates team and also won first place.
She graduated from Silverthorn Collegiate Institute with honours and got accepted to York University to study International Political Science and Communications.
Career
2009 - 2015: Career beginnings, Television & Digital
After a year at York University, Nairisha decided she wanted to pursue media so she got an agent and landed her first audition for a Roger's Wireless commercial[13]. During her summer months she found herself volunteering for the Iffa Award's red carpet in Canada where she caught the eye of a producer after wrangling Bollywood superstar Bipasha Basu, on the red carpet. She quickly got picked up by Ethnic Channels to host the red carpet for the TIFF film Breakaway and subsequently got picked up for a screen test for Rogers Media's multicultural shows V-Mix and Bollywood Boulevard on CityTV.
In 2012, Nairisha got accepted to Ryerson University's coveted Radio and Television Arts program where she majored in Media Production.
Reporting for Rogers Media, Nairisha interviewed some of the top names in entertainment such as Deepika Padukone, Nelly Furtado, Jay Sean, DVBBS, Tory Lanez[14] and more
Nairisha wanted to break out of the South-Asian mold so she decided to pursue various other mainstream publications to broaden her portfolio like Verve Girl Magazine where she did the feature cover interview for breakout artist Conor Maynard[15].
In 2015 she sought-out the Executive Producer for Red Carpet Diary TV and pitched to be a host, when the producer was about to hang up the phone saying they already have seasonal reporters, she pitched to fix their social media presence. This landed her a gig at the Toronto International Film Festival and in subsequent years as a reporter on the red carpet. Here she had a chance to rub shoulders with stars like Priyanka Chopra, Al Pacino, Tom Hiddleson and more. She's interviewed Hollywood superstars like Rooney Mara[16], Dakota Fanning[17], director Martin Koolhoven and more.
During the summer months she took on an online call for ambassadors at Ink Entertainment where she caught the attention of their marketing team. Due to her good eye for design and social media presence she got hired to launch the Snapchat for Ink Entertainment's largest concert venue Cabana Pool Bar. She created content for the platform and rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest deejays in the world like Tiesto, Steve Angelo, Lil John and more
Simultaneously she also reported for 21 Entertainment's Best Fan TV where she rebranded the whole website and interviewed the likes of Marianas Trench[18], Anthony Mackie, Bebe Rexha, Bea Miller[19], Fefe Dobson, Sabrina Carpenter, Francesco Yates and more.
In 2018 she got picked up by the Toronto Men's and Women's Fashion Week[20] to be their official reporter in the HP Lounge where she's interviewed some of the top fashion designers in the Canadian fashion scene.
Nairisha's work also includes working as a stylist for various retailers such as Costa Blanca, La Chateau, Victoria Secret, Harry Rosen, Ted Baker, Shiseido Group and most recently Salvatore Ferragamo.
2015 - 2019: Breaking into Film, Commercials and Music
Realizing her lifelong dream of acting in films, Nairisha began to pursue behind the scenes opportunities as a first assistant director for various independent productions. She started to build relationships with directors and producers and went on to being cast in lead roles for various indie productions. She's also been featured in music videos for Drake and Jesse Reyez. Her commercial work includes Cineplex[21], Aveda[22] and FootLocker. In 2016, Nairisha launched her website and blog to continue working with brands having done campaigns for brands like Visit Dubai, Doc Martens, MarcCain, Giorgio Armani[23], Daniel Wellington, Juicy Couture and L'Oreal[24].
2020 - Present: Record Label & Production House
In 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic Nairisha launched X15 Enterprises as an umbrella company for her record label X15 Records and Independent production house X15 Entertainment through which she wrote and composed her debut EP, Submerge
